Quick answer

How to Find a Saint Louis MetroBus Schedule

Open the official MetroBus route directory, select a Missouri or Illinois route, choose the travel direction and service day, then read the departure time for the appropriate stop or timepoint.

1 Find route Search by number or route name.
2 Select direction Match the destination sign.
3 Choose day Weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
4 Find stop Check the timepoint and Stop ID.
5 Recheck live Use Transit app or the phone system.
No single first or last MetroBus time exists. Routes have different operating hours, and some buses run later than others. A route’s first terminal departure is not necessarily the first time it reaches your neighborhood stop.
Important September 2026 changes

What Changed on Saint Louis MetroBus in September 2026?

Metro Transit implemented a service update on September 14, 2026. Several Missouri routes received adjustments, and Missouri Route #5 Green was discontinued.

Missouri #5 Green no longer operates

Metro Transit ended service on the Missouri #5 Green route on September 14. Routes #2 Red and #16 City Limits were changed to serve important destinations previously covered by Green.

Do not use an older #5 Green schedule or assume the former route’s stops still operate under the same number.

#2 Red and #16 City Limits Routing changes affecting parts of the former Green corridor, including university-area and Clayton Road connections.
#10, #40, #57, #91 and #95 Selected weekday or weekend timetable adjustments; check the affected route page.
#30 Arsenal and #90 Hampton Routing or timetable revisions were also included in the September update.
Missouri Route 5 is not Illinois Route 5. Illinois MetroBus still has its separately numbered #5 Missouri Avenue–ML King service. Do not confuse it with the discontinued Missouri #5 Green route.

Metro reported no changes to Illinois MetroBus or MetroLink as part of the September 14 service update.

Verified timetable examples

Saint Louis Metro Bus Times: Real Departure Examples

MetroBus doesn’t have a universal first bus or last bus. The following scheduled examples demonstrate how early service and travel time differ by route. They come from official route timetables for the September 14–November 29, 2026 service period.

Route Travel direction Starting timepoint Ending timepoint Scheduled duration
#70 Grand Weekday northbound Loughborough Commons, 3:52 AM North Broadway Transit Center, 4:33 AM 41 min
#95 Kingshighway Weekday northbound Gravois-Hampton Transit Center, 4:23 AM North Broadway Transit Center, 5:17 AM 54 min
#19 St. Louis Ave Weekday eastbound Rock Road Transit Center, 4:21 AM Civic Center Transit Center, 5:03 AM 42 min
#57 Manchester Weekday eastbound full trip Wildwood Shopping Center, 5:28 AM Maplewood Transit Center, 6:20 AM 52 min

These are selected scheduled trips, not a promise that every bus follows the same travel duration. A partial trip, weekend service or opposite direction may start at a different timepoint.

Sample Route #95 Kingshighway Timepoints

The weekday northbound #95 timetable provides a useful example of how to read intermediate stops along the same bus journey.

Stop Trip 1 Trip 2 Trip 3
Gravois-Hampton TC 4:23 AM 4:53 AM 5:23 AM
Kingshighway & Chippewa 4:32 AM 5:02 AM 5:32 AM
Central West End TC 4:50 AM 5:20 AM 5:50 AM
Delmar & Kingshighway 4:59 AM 5:29 AM 5:59 AM
North Broadway TC 5:17 AM 5:47 AM 6:17 AM
How to interpret the example If you board the first listed #95 bus at Central West End Transit Center, the scheduled time is 4:50 AM—not 4:23 AM. The earlier time belongs to the bus’s starting terminal.

For your exact route, open its official timetable, select the day and direction, then use the closest published timepoint or stop-level live arrival tool.

Weekdays, weekends and holidays

Saint Louis MetroBus Weekend and Holiday Schedules

Not every MetroBus route operates every day. Some routes have separate Saturday and Sunday schedules, while others provide reduced service or no service during certain periods.

Weekday Mon–Fri Use the route’s weekday timetable, which may include commuter-oriented trips and early-morning service.
Saturday Varies Check the separate Saturday timetable. Frequency or operating span can differ from weekdays.
Sunday Varies Sunday service may have fewer departures. Confirm that your specific route operates.

Route maps and stop IDs

MetroBus Stops: How to Find the Correct Stop

The correct bus stop depends on your route, travel direction and nearby intersection. A transit center may have several boarding bays, and two stops with similar names can serve opposite directions.

Typical St. Louis Bus-to-Rail Journey

1 Neighborhood stop
2 MetroBus
3 Transit center
4 MetroLink
5 Downtown station
6 Walk to destination

Illustrative travel sequence, not a map of one specific route. Use the official route map and trip planner for actual walking paths and transfer stops.

What Is a MetroBus Stop ID?

Metro says a Stop ID is printed at the top of MetroBus stop signs. This number identifies the specific stop for real-time arrival lookups.

Route number Identifies the bus service, such as #70 Grand or #95 Kingshighway.
Destination sign Tells you the direction or terminal the bus is heading toward.
Stop ID Identifies your exact boarding location for Metro’s live-arrival phone system.

Using Google Maps Without Boarding at the Wrong Stop

  1. Search for your destination in Google Maps.
  2. Select Directions and choose public transit.
  3. Compare routes and the walking time to the suggested bus stop.
  4. Open the stop location and check the direction.
  5. Confirm its current service using Metro’s official route map or Transit app.
  6. Check Rider Alerts before starting the walk.

For more detailed help, our Google Maps bus route and stop-finding guide explains scheduled versus live arrivals, map pins and transit directions. Use Metro as the final source when a stop has moved.

Useful transfer locations

Major St. Louis MetroBus Transit Centers

Transit centers help riders transfer between neighborhood routes and MetroLink. They are especially important when a journey crosses the city, county or state boundary.

Transit center Published address Why it matters
Civic Center 401 S. 14th Street, St. Louis, MO 63103 Downtown bus transfers and nearby MetroLink service.
Central West End 4510 Children’s Place, St. Louis, MO 63110 Important bus and rail transfer area near the medical district.
North Hanley 4300 Hanley Road, St. Louis, MO 63134 North County bus connections and MetroLink access.
North County 3140 Pershall Road, Ferguson, MO 63136 North County neighborhood and regional bus connections.
Shrewsbury–Lansdowne I-44 7201 Lansdowne Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63119 Blue Line and nearby bus connections.
Washington Park 909 N. 54th Street, East St. Louis, IL 62203 Illinois-side bus transfers.

How to Change Buses at a Transit Center

  1. Confirm your connecting route and direction before leaving the first bus.
  2. Check whether the connection uses a different bay or platform.
  3. Use Metro’s current station or transit-center layout.
  4. Check the next arrival in Transit app.
  5. Allow extra time when transferring between bus and rail platforms.
  6. Check the last return connection if you are traveling late.
Local tip for Civic Center A bus arriving at Civic Center Transit Center does not necessarily use the same boarding bay for its return trip. Check the route destination and the center’s current bay signs.
2026 fares and passes

Saint Louis MetroBus Fares: Cash, Reduced Fare & Passes

Multiple bus and rail rides Compare a One-Day Pass with separate fares. The pass may be convenient when you plan several connections.
Regular commuters Compare a 7-Day or 30-Day Pass with Tap & Ride fare capping and your expected number of rides.
Fare-price distinction The $1 bus cash fare should not be confused with the $2.50 MetroLink rail cash fare. A bus-to-rail journey may require the appropriate fare or pass. Check Metro’s current transfer and validator rules for your payment method.

How to Get Live Arrivals Without a Smartphone

Metro provides an automated phone system that can identify the next three real-time arrivals at your stop.

  1. Find the Stop ID at the top of your MetroBus stop sign.
  2. Call 314-231-2345 or 618-271-2345.
  3. Press 1 for the automated system.

Do not use the old 79322 text service. Metro discontinued automated real-time information by texting 79322 in March 2025. Use Transit app or the phone system instead.

Scheduled Time vs Live Arrival

Scheduled arrival The planned time in the published route timetable. Useful for planning but not proof that the vehicle is approaching.
Live arrival prediction A same-day estimate using available vehicle information. It may change because of traffic, construction, detours or data interruptions.

Bus and rail connections

Saint Louis MetroBus to MetroLink Transfers

MetroLink connects major St. Louis-area destinations using the Red and Blue rail lines. Many MetroBus trips can connect to a MetroLink station, reducing the need to make the entire journey by road.

MetroLink Red Line

Connects Lambert Airport, Downtown St. Louis and destinations across the river toward the Illinois side of the system.

MetroLink Blue Line

Connects the Shrewsbury side of the network with Clayton, Central West End, Downtown and Illinois-side destinations.

MetroLink’s Red Line serves Lambert Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 stations. Depending on where your journey begins, a local MetroBus connection followed by the Red Line may be a practical option.

Airport travel tip Do not assume that a MetroBus route heading toward North County serves the airport terminal directly. Use the Trip Planner to check whether you need a MetroLink transfer and which terminal station is appropriate.

Route alerts and current conditions

Saint Louis MetroBus Service Alerts & Detours

MetroBus routes may change because of road construction, special events, blocked streets, weather, operator availability or quarterly schedule updates. Check both the bus route and any connecting rail line before leaving.

Temporary reroute A bus may use different streets and skip its ordinary stops during construction.
Stop relocation Your normal stop may temporarily move to another intersection or bay.
Schedule adjustment A published quarterly update may move departures by several minutes or change the route pattern.

Example: #70 Grand Reroute

Grand Boulevard area service advisory

The official #70 Grand route page includes an October 12, 2026 reroute affecting portions of the Grand, Delmar, Spring and Cook Street area.

The notice is labeled as continuing until further notice. The actual operating path and stop availability may change, so check the current route alert before boarding.

Verify the current #70 Grand alert

How to Read a Service Alert

  1. Open the official Rider Alerts page.
  2. Find the route you intend to use.
  3. Read the effective date and whether the alert has ended.
  4. Check which direction is affected.
  5. Identify any closed stops and alternative boarding locations.
  6. Check live arrival information at the replacement stop.

Check current Metro Transit Rider Alerts.

Same-day warning An alert described in this article is not necessarily active at the time you travel. Metro’s live alert information takes precedence over saved pages, screenshots and older printed schedules.
Accessible travel and disability services

Saint Louis MetroBus Accessibility & Call-A-Ride

Metro states that all MetroBus vehicles and MetroLink trains are accessible. However, a bus’s accessible equipment is only one part of a trip. The sidewalk, curb, station elevator and transfer path also matter.

Lifts and ramps All MetroBus vehicles are equipped with accessible boarding equipment.
Priority seating Seats are available for passengers who may have difficulty standing.
Mobility-device spaces Designated spaces accommodate wheelchairs and scooters.
Stop announcements Drivers or recordings announce important stops and transfer points.

How to Plan an Accessible MetroBus Journey

  1. Find your route using the official schedule or Trip Planner.
  2. Check the walking or rolling route to your boarding stop.
  3. Confirm any ramp or lift requirements.
  4. Check alerts for moved stops or sidewalk work.
  5. Verify station elevator status if changing to MetroLink.
  6. Allow additional time for unfamiliar stops or transfers.
  7. Contact Metro Accessibility Services if you need assistance.

Metro Call-A-Ride Paratransit

Metro Call-A-Ride provides accessible curb-to-curb shared transportation. ADA-eligible riders receive priority for qualifying trips, and the service uses advance reservations.

ADA Services 314-982-1510 Eligibility and accessibility questions
Call-A-Ride Reservations 314-652-3617 Advance ride reservations
Reservation hours 7:30–4:30 Published daily reservation-line hours

Metro advises passengers to prepare the trip’s pickup and destination addresses, phone numbers and any accessibility assistance needs before calling. Call-A-Ride is shared transportation, so trips may take longer than a direct car journey.

Accessible trip tip Qualifying ADA riders may also be eligible for the On The Way With ADA program, which provides free rides on MetroBus and MetroLink. Check eligibility before relying on that benefit.

First-time rider instructions

How to Ride MetroBus in St. Louis

Metro’s official rider instructions explain several practical actions that can prevent missed buses and wrong-direction trips.

1. Be at the stop five minutes early

Metro specifically recommends arriving at least five minutes before the bus’s scheduled arrival. Allow more time at an unfamiliar stop or transfer center.

2. Signal the operator

As the bus approaches, stand or raise your hand to indicate that you want to board. Make sure you are waiting at the correct posted stop.

3. Check the destination sign

Confirm both the bus route number and the destination shown above the windshield. A bus with the correct number can travel in the wrong direction for your trip.

4. Pay the fare correctly

Prepare exact cash, an accepted ticket, a mobile fare or a valid pass before boarding. Ask for required mobility assistance when necessary.

5. Request your stop

Pull the stop cord or press the vertical request strip before approaching your destination.

6. Plan the return journey

Check the reverse-direction timetable and the last departure from your actual return stop before leaving.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using a Missouri timetable for an Illinois route with the same number.
  • Using a discontinued Missouri #5 Green schedule.
  • Assuming a route’s first terminal departure is your stop’s arrival.
  • Using the discontinued 79322 text-arrival number.
  • Boarding without checking the illuminated destination sign.
  • Assuming a MetroBus transfer and a MetroLink fare are always interchangeable.
  • Ignoring temporary station, bus bay or sidewalk changes.

How to Find the Correct St. Louis MetroBus Schedule Online

  1. Open the MetroBus directory. Visit MetroBus Route Maps & Schedules.
  2. Choose Missouri or Illinois. Do not assume the route number identifies one regional service.
  3. Search for your route. Use the route number or route name, such as #70 Grand or #95 Kingshighway.
  4. Open the route details. Look for its route map, schedule selector and Rider Alerts.
  5. Choose travel direction. Select northbound, southbound, eastbound or westbound as applicable.
  6. Choose day of travel. Select weekdays, Saturday or Sunday. Check the holiday calendar when relevant.
  7. Find your timepoint. Locate the major stop nearest to your actual boarding location.
  8. Read the scheduled trip. Follow one timetable row from your boarding stop to your destination.
  9. Check your exact stop. Use the Stop ID printed on the stop sign or choose the stop in Transit app.
  10. Check live arrivals and alerts. Confirm the vehicle prediction, route direction, any detour and your payment method before leaving.
Useful timetable detail Some printed timepoints show a bus passing an intersection, but the exact boarding stop may be several minutes earlier or later. The route map and live arrival lookup provide better stop-specific guidance.

Local Tips for St. Louis MetroBus Riders

Downtown events can affect routes.

Check Rider Alerts when traveling near stadiums, downtown events, festivals or major road closures. A route can operate normally elsewhere while downtown stops are temporarily bypassed.

North County trips may need a transfer.

For destinations around Ferguson, North Hanley or Riverview, compare the full trip using the official planner. The nearest route is not always the route with the fastest total journey.

West County routes have different operating spans.

Services such as #57 Manchester and #58 Chesterfield Valley should be checked individually for evening and weekend availability.

Cross-river trips need state-specific schedules.

Check an Illinois route separately when traveling toward Belleville or East St. Louis. MetroLink may provide a useful connection between bus networks.

If you need another published overview specifically focused on route selection throughout both sides of the region, our existing St. Louis MetroBus network and stop guide provides additional schedule examples and route-finding instructions.
