Orange County OC Bus rider guide

Plan an OC Bus Trip Across Orange County

Orange County Transportation Authority operates the OC Bus network across Orange County, with local routes, community routes, Metrolink Stationlink service, OC Bus Rapid routes and a Santa Ana city shuttle.

The current route directory was updated for the August 9, 2026 service change. Use this guide to find the right route, understand schedule categories, check live departures, compare fares and avoid relying on an outdated bus timetable.

Quick answer

How to Find Your OCTA Bus Schedule

OCTA publishes separate schedules for each OC Bus route. The current network information is updated quarterly, with the current route directory marked August 9, 2026. Search by route number or corridor, open that route’s timetable, confirm the travel direction and service day, then use a real-time rider tool before leaving.

1 Find route

Search by route number, city or destination.

2 Check schedule

Use the current Digital Bus Book or route timetable.

3 Pick direction

Confirm the city or terminal shown on the bus.

4 Find stop

Use the stop number or nearby cross street.

5 Check live

Use Transit, Text4Next or Next Ride.

Schedule-change warning: OCTA says schedules are updated quarterly. A saved PDF or screenshot can become outdated after a February, May, August or November service change, so confirm the current effective schedule before travel.

2 Check direction

Match the destination shown on the schedule.

3 Choose day

Weekday, Saturday and Sunday service can differ.

Wave & transfers

Wave Fare Capping Can Be Better Than Buying a Traditional Pass

Wave calculates fares as you ride. Once your eligible daily or monthly cap is reached, qualifying additional rides are free for the rest of that day or calendar month.

Wave Card Physical reusable fare card with fare capping and eligible transfers.
Wave App Virtual Wave fare card on a compatible phone.
Contactless Tap an eligible contactless bank card or payment method.
Cash Exact cash is still accepted for a single ride.
Free transfer: OCTA says Wave includes a free 2-hour transfer. Cash payments do not include the free transfer or fare capping.
Paper-pass change: OCTA’s Wave FAQ says traditional paper 1-Day and 30-Day passes are no longer sold under the new fare system; Wave fare capping replaces the need to buy those products upfront.

John Wayne Airport

Which OCTA Bus Serves John Wayne Airport?

Route 76
Corridor Huntington Beach – John Wayne Airport
Before flying Add extra time for bus waiting, terminal walking, security and possible traffic delays.
Airport timing tip: do not plan an airport trip around the bus’s scheduled arrival alone. Check Transit/Next Ride and allow a substantial buffer before your flight.
Rail connections

OC Bus Connections to Metrolink and Rail

OCTA operates Stationlink routes that connect selected Orange County Metrolink stations with employment and education centers. The bus system also connects with Metrolink, Amtrak and neighboring transit agencies.

Route 453 Orange Transportation Center → St. Joseph’s Hospital
Route 472 Tustin Metrolink Station → Irvine Business Complex
Route 473 Tustin Metrolink Station → UCI
Route 480 Irvine Metrolink Station → Lake Forest
Transfer planning: train schedules and Stationlink schedules may not use the same frequency throughout the day. Check both the rail departure and connecting bus timetable before relying on a transfer.
