N6X Express Bus Schedule: Jamaica to Hempstead

The n6X is NICE Bus’s Hempstead Turnpike Express. It follows a limited-stop pattern and is particularly useful for riders whose starting and ending stops are served by the express route.

NICE publishes n6X as a separate route with scheduled weekday peak-period trips. It does not operate like the all-stop n6 local.

n6X is not automatically faster for every rider The express skips many local stops, but it also has its own scheduled running times and can be affected by road traffic. Choose n6X when your exact boarding stop and destination are served by that trip. A local n6 may be the better option for a short intermediate trip.
Direction matters The tables above show Jamaica-to-Hempstead departures. For Hempstead-to-Jamaica express buses, choose the opposite direction in NICE’s current n6X schedule. Do not reverse these timetable columns to estimate your return departure.

Route comparison

N6 vs N6X: Which Bus Should You Take?

n6

N6 Local Bus

  • Serves more stops along the route.
  • Useful for local trips within Queens and Nassau County.
  • Operates on weekdays and weekends.
  • Published service includes late-night and overnight trips.
  • Connects Jamaica and Hempstead via Hempstead Turnpike.
  • Uses the standard NICE local bus fare.
n6X

N6X Express Bus

  • Limited-stop Hempstead Turnpike service.
  • Primarily a weekday peak-period option.
  • Useful for longer trips between major timepoints.
  • Does not stop at every n6 local stop.
  • Has a separate schedule and destination sign.
  • Uses the published NICE fixed-route fare.

How to Decide in Three Steps

1. Find your boarding stop If it is not served by n6X, choose n6 local.
2. Check your destination An express trip may skip the stop where you plan to get off.
3. Compare actual arrival Use the official timetable and live tracker, not just the express label.
Example: Traveling to UBS Arena Both route schedules list UBS Arena/Hempstead Turnpike as a key timepoint for selected trips. Compare the n6 and n6X departure from your boarding stop, and check event-day traffic before traveling.
Saturday, Sunday and holidays

Does the N6 Bus Run on Weekends?

Yes. NICE n6 local operates on Saturdays and Sundays as well as weekdays. The current official PDF contains separate service-day information and notes for holiday schedules.

Weekdays n6 + n6X Local service and scheduled weekday express trips.
Saturday n6 Local Use Saturday departures rather than weekday rush-hour times.
Sunday n6 Local Confirm Sunday and late-night times on the official PDF.

How to Check Saturday or Sunday Departures

  1. Open the official NICE n6 local route page.
  2. Select Hempstead or Jamaica as your direction.
  3. Choose the actual Saturday or Sunday travel date.
  4. Find your boarding timepoint or stop.
  5. Check the latest live arrival before leaving.
Why exact weekend departure times are not copied from the weekday table The current 2026 PDF has separate service-day patterns. Weekday times shown earlier in this article are not a substitute for Saturday or Sunday departures. Use the official weekend section to avoid an incorrect trip.

Late-night and overnight service

Does the N6 Bus Run Late at Night?

The n6 local publishes late-evening and after-midnight departures. NICE’s September 2026 online schedule shows the following selected Jamaica-to-Hempstead trips.

Jamaica departure UBS Arena Hempstead TC arrival
9:40 PM 10:06 PM 10:37 PM
10:10 PM 10:36 PM 11:07 PM

1:10 AM 1:32 AM 1:56 AM
1:40 AM 2:02 AM 2:26 AM
2:10 AM 2:32 AM 2:56 AM
After-midnight date warning A departure at 12:10 AM belongs to the new calendar day, even if you think of it as the previous night’s journey. The correct schedule may differ at the boundary between weekday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday service.
Overnight trip pattern Some late-night n6 trips use different arrival positions at Hempstead Transit Center. Confirm the actual terminal stop and live status. Do not assume that the same overnight timetable applies without change on every date.

N6 Bus Fare: OMNY, Cash, GoMobile and Reduced Fare

Cash fare $3.00 Coins only; NICE fareboxes do not accept dollar bills.
Senior / disability reduced fare $1.50 Must qualify and present/use an accepted reduced-fare credential.
Single GoMobile ticket $3.50 Valid on NICE buses, not MTA subway/buses.

How to Pay with OMNY on the N6

1 Prepare payment

Use an OMNY card, supported bank card, smartphone or wearable.

2 Board n6

Use the correct entrance and follow the bus operator’s instructions.

3 Tap once

Tap the OMNY reader to pay the applicable fare.

4 Keep same method

Use the same card or device for an eligible transfer.

5 Verify transfer

Check the two-hour transfer rules before connecting with another service.

OMNY availability NICE’s current fare page confirms OMNY is accepted. OMNY Fair Fares, Student and CUNY cards are not accepted as their special fare products on NICE; check current fare rules if you use one of these credentials.

Connections and free transfers

N6 Bus Transfers: MTA Subway, NICE Buses and LIRR

The n6 is useful for connecting Queens subway and bus service with NICE routes and Long Island Rail Road stations. However, a connection does not automatically mean the next journey is free.

Jamaica, Queens

Connections to MTA subway/bus services in the Jamaica area. Check the walk from 165th Street terminal to your subway station.

Hempstead Transit Center

Transfers to other NICE Bus routes and Hempstead LIRR services. Rail tickets are separate from the normal NICE bus fare.

UBS Arena / Belmont Park

N6/n6X timepoint serving the local arena corridor. Check event-related traffic and rail alternatives.

OMNY Transfer Rule

One eligible transfer 2 hours NICE’s OMNY policy provides one free eligible transfer within two hours to NICE buses or MTA bus/subway service.
Same payment method Tap again Use the same physical card or digital device so the system can recognize the eligible transfer.
GoMobile tickets and MTA transfers A NICE GoMobile ticket is not valid on MTA buses or subways. If you intend to transfer to an MTA service, OMNY is usually a more straightforward payment choice under the current NICE rules.
Cash-payment transfer When using coins and transferring, ask the bus operator for the applicable paper transfer. NICE does not issue a paper transfer for an OMNY tap payment.
Long Island Rail Road Hempstead LIRR tickets are sold under separate MTA rail fare rules. Do not assume a $3.00 n6 fare includes an LIRR train ride.

Local intermediate stop

Check the route number, the destination sign and the correct side of Hempstead Turnpike.

n6X express departure

Verify that the express actually stops at your location and destination before waiting.
