Fare and payment details
Critical: not every BM2 trip serves the same Manhattan stops. Some weekday BM2 buses operate Downtown-focused trips, while others continue to Midtown or run as super-express services. A blank cell in the official timetable means that timepoint is not served by that particular trip; do not assume the bus stops there.

Last reviewed: October 9, 2026. The MTA’s online BM2 timetable lists a September 6, 2026 effective schedule. Because agency PDFs may be revised or cached, check the effective date displayed when you open the document before relying on the examples below.

BM2 Weekday Schedule Toward Manhattan

The Manhattan-bound BM2 serves Brooklyn stops in Canarsie, along Avenue M and Avenue H, and near Cortelyou Road before reaching Manhattan.

Published weekday Manhattan-bound service begins with a departure from Flatlands Avenue/Williams Avenue at approximately 5:20 AM. The last published weekday Manhattan-bound trip in the current table leaves that timepoint at approximately 3:10 PM. These are not the first or last times for every other Brooklyn stop.

BM2 Weekday Schedule Toward Canarsie and Spring Creek

The Brooklyn-bound BM2 begins some trips at East 57th Street/Second Avenue. Other weekday trips start farther Downtown or at intermediate Manhattan stops, so your boarding choice changes which departure you can catch.

The timetable lists weekday BM2 departures from East 57th Street/Second Avenue beginning around 11:10 AM, with the final published departure at approximately 12:15 AM after midnight. Downtown-originating rush-hour trips add service earlier in the return journey.

Rush-hour Downtown-only departures Some weekday buses start at Church Street/Park Place and other Downtown points, not East 57th Street. An empty East 57th Street cell does not mean the trip is canceled; it may be a trip that starts farther south.

Which Manhattan stop should you use?

Midtown

Common Brooklyn-bound BM2 stops include East 57th Street/Second Avenue and Fifth Avenue at several numbered cross streets.

East 23rd Street

Choose the proper eastbound stop on East 23rd Street and compare the route’s headsign before boarding.

Lower Manhattan

Check Church Street, Pearl Street, Water Street and the State Street/Battery Place area for the trip you intend to use.

Direction and trip-pattern resolver

Downtown, Midtown and Super Express BM2: What Is the Difference?

This is one of the most important BM2 schedule details. The official weekday timetable contains multiple Manhattan patterns, and not every bus calls at every listed timepoint.

Pattern 1

Regular Midtown Trip

Serves Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan and Midtown according to the listed timetable row. The Manhattan-bound headsign commonly reads Midtown 57 St via Church St via Madison Av.

Useful when your destination is in the Financial District, around East 23rd Street or along Madison Avenue, subject to the exact stop pattern.

Pattern 2

Downtown-Focused Trip

Some weekday trips end in Lower Manhattan rather than continuing to Midtown, and some Brooklyn-bound trips start Downtown instead of at East 57th Street.

Check the last populated Manhattan column for the bus you intend to board.

Pattern 3

Super Express Midtown Trip

The MTA’s Bus Time listings include Super Express Midtown 57 St via Madison Av trips. These may bypass parts of the normal Downtown stopping pattern.

Do not assume a super-express bus will serve a Lower Manhattan stop merely because regular BM2 service does.

How to avoid the wrong variant Read the headsign and check the actual stop list in MTA Bus Time. A timepoint left blank in the published schedule may mean the trip skips that timepoint, starts later along the route or terminates earlier.

BM2 Bus Route Map: Brooklyn and Manhattan

These maps help you locate two useful BM2 corridor areas. They do not replace the full MTA route map or indicate that a specific temporary stop is currently active.

Canarsie — Flatlands Avenue / Williams Avenue

Use this area map to orient yourself in Canarsie. The MTA timetable lists Flatlands Avenue/Williams Avenue as a major BM2 timepoint.

Midtown — East 57th Street / Second Avenue

This intersection is a major Brooklyn-bound BM2 terminal timepoint. Check the exact stop sign, direction and live alert before boarding.

Route map versus walking map Google Maps can help you walk to a street or station, but the official MTA route page is the final source for the bus path and actual stop locations. Temporary detours can move BM2 boarding points.

2026 express bus ticket price

BM2 Bus Fare: $7.25 and How to Pay

BM2 is an express bus, not a standard local Brooklyn bus. The MTA’s current published 2026 fare is $7.25 per regular adult ride.

Adult BM2 express fare $7.25 Regular one-way express bus fare.

Tap on the bus using an accepted OMNY payment method.

Eligible reduced fare $3.60 Off-peak express fare for eligible riders.

Not available during weekday peak periods from 6–10 AM and 3–7 PM.

Express weekly fare cap $67 Rolling 7-day cap with eligible OMNY use.

Covers eligible express bus, subway and local-bus rides using the same payment credential.

Local bus comparison $3.00 Regular subway and local-bus fare.

This cheaper fare does not apply as the standalone BM2 express fare.

MTA EXPRESS BUS PAYMENT

Paying on the BM2

  1. Board through the front door.
  2. Use a contactless credit/debit card, smartphone, wearable or loaded OMNY Card.
  3. Tap your payment method on the OMNY reader.
  4. Use the same payment credential for eligible transfers and fare capping.
Express-to-subway transfer rule MTA provides an eligible free transfer within two hours using the same payment method. If you transfer from a subway or local bus to the express bus, you pay the difference between the local and express fares.
Can you pay cash on the BM2? The MTA’s current payment guidance lists cash on local and related bus services, not as a regular BM2 express-bus boarding option. Use OMNY or another currently accepted agency fare medium. Existing MetroCards may be usable during the transition, but new MetroCard sales and refills ended January 1, 2026; check current acceptance before relying on one.
2026 OMNY weekly cap For eligible riders using the same contactless card or device, MTA says combined subway, local-bus and express-bus fares are capped at $67 over a rolling seven-day period. The separate $35 local/subway-only cap does not mean unlimited BM2 rides for $35.

Service changes and detours

BM2 Service Alerts: What Could Affect Your Trip?

BM2 crosses multiple parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. Roadwork, parades, street closures, construction, special events and operator availability can alter stop service or the scheduled trip.

Cortelyou Road detour reported by MTA Bus Time

MTA Bus Time has listed a Brooklyn roadwork detour involving BM2 and B103 between Coney Island Avenue and Ocean Avenue, with buses using Beverley Road. The notice identified skipped stops near Cortelyou Road/Westminster Road, East 18th Street, East 19th Street and Stratford Road depending on direction. Verify whether that detour is still active on your travel date.

Midtown and Lower Manhattan disruptions

Large events and street restrictions can reroute BM2 buses in Manhattan. Previous MTA notices have warned of altered express-bus service around East 57th Street, Lexington Avenue, Midtown and the Financial District.

Temporary Battery Place stop changes

MTA notices have identified temporary changes near State Street/Battery Place, directing some Brooklyn-bound express riders toward alternate stops such as State Street/Bridge Street during construction. Confirm the currently active location before boarding.

Individual trip cancellations

MTA Bus Time may identify a specific scheduled departure that will not operate because of staffing or another operational issue. Check your intended trip shortly before leaving rather than relying solely on its printed time.

Holiday and special schedules

Some holidays have no BM2 service while others use Saturday or individually published special timetables. The normal weekday schedule is not always valid.

Alert-status clarification The notices above describe disruptions reported by the MTA, not a guarantee that every disruption is still active. Do not treat an old detour or temporary stop notice as current without opening MTA Bus Time.

Check current BM2 route alerts and stop changes.

Travel duration and frequency

How Long Does the BM2 Take from Brooklyn to Manhattan?

BM2 journey time varies widely because the route crosses Brooklyn, the express portion into Manhattan, and sometimes both Downtown and Midtown. The weekday commute can be longer than a lightly trafficked weekend trip.

Selected weekday early trip

5:20 AM → 6:49 AM, Flatlands/Williams to East 57th/Third Avenue.

83 minutes
Practical planning estimate These selected scheduled full-corridor trips range from approximately 83 to 110 minutes. A journey between intermediate stops may be much shorter, while heavy congestion can increase actual travel time. Use the latest MTA trip planner for the specific trip.

How often does BM2 run?

Morning weekday peak

Additional Manhattan-bound departures operate at closely spaced intervals. Super-express and Downtown patterns may have different stop coverage.

Midday and evening

Many departures are approximately hourly, but the timetable also contains irregular and peak-specific intervals.

Saturday

Service is largely hourly during its published operating window, with some wider gaps and no regular Sunday service.

For a timed appointment, allow extra time for bus arrival variability, Midtown congestion and any walking or subway transfer after the BM2 trip.

Accessibility and passenger assistance

BM2 Wheelchair Accessibility, Reduced Fares and Boarding

The MTA provides accessible-bus services and passenger assistance resources. For a mobility-sensitive journey, confirm the current vehicle and your boarding stop’s accessibility rather than relying only on the route name.

Accessible vehicle

Check ramp/lift availability, securement guidance and the specific express-bus trip if you have a wheelchair or other mobility device.

Accessible stop

Verify sidewalk clearance, curb conditions, roadwork and temporary stop locations.

Reduced express fare

Eligible riders may pay $3.60 outside weekday peak hours. Peak-period restrictions apply.

Alternative journey

If the BM2 is unavailable, use the official MTA trip planner to find local-bus and subway options that suit your needs.
