Find the Right Academy Commuter Route and Timetable

Academy Bus schedules cover several different commuter markets, not one single route. Academy’s current schedule directory includes service in the Baltimore region, Maryland/Washington D.C., New Jersey/New York and Virginia/Washington D.C.

For New Jersey commuters, the most searched services connect park-and-rides and Shore communities with the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Wall Street. Current Fall schedules are marked effective September 1, 2026.

Quick answer

How to Find an Academy Bus Schedule

Start on Academy’s official Commuter page, choose your region, then open the exact route timetable. Do not search only by departure city because Academy publishes separate schedules for destination, weekday grouping and sometimes Friday service.

1. Choose region Baltimore, Maryland/D.C., New Jersey/New York or Virginia/D.C.
2. Choose destination Port Authority, Wall Street, Baltimore, Washington D.C. or another listed destination.
3. Check service day Many NJ/NY schedules separate Monday–Thursday from Friday.
4. Confirm stop Match your park-and-ride, local pickup point, fare zone and return stop.
Do not use an old screenshot as your timetable. Academy’s current commuter page identifies new Fall schedules effective September 1, 2026. Some 2025 PDFs remain indexed online, so always start from the current commuter page.

Current route directory

Academy Bus Routes by Region

The Academy commuter schedule page currently groups scheduled service into four main geographic sections. Use the route description below as a resolver, then open the official timetable for exact departure times.

Baltimore Commuter Routes

410 411 420 425 215 210 310 320

410: Churchville/Bel Air → Downtown Baltimore.

411: Hickory/Bel Air → Downtown Baltimore / Johns Hopkins Hospital.

420: Havre de Grace → Downtown Baltimore / Johns Hopkins Hospital.

425: Edgewood / Aberdeen Proving Ground corridor.

Academy also lists Kent Island, Annapolis, Columbia and Baltimore services under routes 210, 215, 310 and 320.

Maryland → Washington D.C.

820

Route 820 is listed as express daily service to Washington D.C. from North Beach, Owings and the Prince George’s Equestrian Center.

Because Maryland/D.C. commuter programs can have their own fare and ticket structure, use the linked Academy timetable rather than applying the New Jersey SilverPass fare chart.

New Jersey → New York City

8A Jackson Parkway Route 36 Route 9 Shore Points Westampton

This is the largest Academy schedule group and includes service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Wall Street and selected trips via Jersey City.

Academy publishes separate Monday–Thursday and Friday PDFs for several routes, including Parkway, Jackson, Route 36, Route 9 and Shore Points.

Virginia → Washington D.C.

Culpeper Warrenton

Academy lists daily commuter service from Culpeper/Warrenton to Downtown Washington D.C.

Use the current timetable for pickup locations, trip frequency and the exact Washington stop pattern.

Academy Bus Times: How the Timetables Work

Academy timetable PDFs use columns for each pickup point. A dash means that trip does not serve that stop. Many PDFs also state that all times are approximate and that operationally necessary additional stops may be made.

Current schedule example Selected departure Destination time Important note
Parkway → Port Authority Jon Bon Jovi Service Area 4:35 AM Port Authority 5:25 AM Monday–Thursday Fall schedule effective September 1, 2026.
Parkway → Port Authority Monmouth 4:15 / Lincroft 4:30 / PNC 4:40 Port Authority 5:35 AM One trip serves several park-and-rides before Manhattan.
Parkway → Wall Street Toms River 4:15 / Brick 4:30 Wall Street area 6:05 AM The current PDF covers Toms River, Brick, Monmouth, Lincroft, PNC and JBJ.
Shore Points → Port Authority Point Pleasant 5:03 AM Port Authority 7:00 AM The coastal route serves numerous Shore communities before New York.

Friday is important: several New Jersey/New York routes have a separate Friday timetable. Do not assume a Monday–Thursday departure also operates at the same time on Friday.

Major Stops, Park-and-Rides and NYC Destinations

Port Authority Bus Terminal Midtown Manhattan destination for Parkway, Route 36, Shore Points, Jackson, Westampton and other listed services.
Wall Street Area Academy publishes services from Route 9, Parkway, Route 36 and other New Jersey origins to Lower Manhattan.

Academy Bus Fares: App vs Paper/Cash

New Jersey/New York Academy fares are zone-based. Your origin or park-and-ride has a fare-zone number printed on the timetable. The official May 1, 2026 fare sheets separately list paper/cash prices and SilverPass app prices.

Port Authority Hazlet / Keansburg $21 app $24 paper/cash one-way

Route 36 example. Senior app fare shown as $10.50.

How to Use the Academy SilverPass App

The SilverPass app can be used to purchase qualifying Academy commuter tickets, view schedules and itineraries, receive disruption notifications and track bus departures in real time.

1
Find your route

Confirm the origin, destination and fare zone before buying.

2
Buy ticket

Select one-way, 10-trip, 40-trip, monthly or another available fare.

3
Check schedule

Use the app itinerary and compare with the current timetable.

4
Track departure

Watch the bus approach your stop when real-time data is available.

5
Activate late

Activate a single-use ticket immediately before boarding.

30-minute activation rule: Academy says an activated single-use SilverPass ticket expires after 30 minutes. Activation cannot be reversed, so do not activate it too early.
30 days One-way, senior/half-fare and 10-trip tickets are valid for 30 days from purchase.
90 days 40-trip tickets sold in SilverPass are valid for 90 days.
Calendar month Monthly app passes are valid from the first through last day of the purchased month.
SilverPass is not universal across every service shown on Academy’s site. Academy’s FAQ says it does not sell mobile Academy tickets for certain partner/contract routes, including 8A and some non-Academy-branded services. Check the route before buying.
Cash and boarding rules

Can You Pay Cash on an Academy Bus?

For Academy-operated commuter services covered by its fare policy, passengers may pay the driver an exact cash fare. Drivers do not carry change.

Exact fare Have the full cash amount ready before boarding.
No onboard ticket sales Academy states that tickets are not sold on the bus.
Port Authority exception Passengers departing Port Authority must have a valid ticket; cash is not accepted there.
PABT rider tip: buy or activate your ticket before heading to the departure gate. Do not wait until you reach the bus expecting to pay cash.
New Jersey commuter parking

Popular Academy Park-and-Ride Locations

P PNC Bank Arts Center Garden State Parkway Exit 116. Used for Port Authority and Wall Street service.
109 Lincroft Park & Ride Garden State Parkway Exit 109. Serves Port Authority, Wall Street and Jersey City-related service.
JBJ Jon Bon Jovi Service Area South Amboy service-area pickup used by multiple commuter routes.
TR Toms River Park & Ride Used for Parkway-to-Wall-Street service.
JX Jackson Park & Ride Located at 2 Progress Place in Jackson; used for New York commuter service.
WA Westampton Park & Ride Near New Jersey Turnpike Exit 5 on Route 541. Academy’s page states parking is free.
Parking is not the same everywhere. Some lots are free, some require municipal permits, and some list daily parking charges. Check the park-and-ride information for your municipality before driving there.
Midtown Manhattan

Using Academy Bus at Port Authority

The Port Authority Bus Terminal is a major Academy destination for Parkway, Route 36, Shore Points, Jackson and Westampton-area commuters.

  • Check your current PDF for the correct return departure.
  • Look for the departure gate shown for your trip.
  • Recheck terminal monitors because Academy’s Fall timetable highlights gate changes on some departures.
  • Have a valid ticket before boarding; Academy says cash is not accepted for PABT departures.
  • Match the destination stop before entering the bus.
  • Allow additional walking time inside the terminal.
Lower Manhattan

Wall Street Drop-Off Areas

The current Parkway and Route 9 schedule PDFs identify a series of Lower Manhattan drop-off points rather than one single “Wall Street bus station.” Examples shown on current schedules include stops around:

Varick Street Near North Moore Street.
Broadway & Warren One of the listed Downtown drop-off points.
Broadway & Vesey Listed before Vesey Street.
Broadway & Cortlandt Listed after Cortlandt Street.
Broadway & Exchange Alley Another current Wall Street-area drop location.
Return boarding differs The evening boarding sequence is not necessarily the reverse of morning drop-off points.
Do not assume “Wall Street” means one stop. Open the route PDF and confirm the exact Manhattan drop-off and return boarding point for your trip.

Check Holiday Service Directly Before Traveling

Academy’s current commuter page and its general FAQ contain different wording about major-holiday service.

Current commuter page States that Academy will not operate service on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
General FAQ page Contains older/conflicting wording saying Sunday service operates on those holidays.
Best practice: because Academy’s own pages conflict on the generic holiday rule, do not rely on either statement for a future holiday trip. Check the latest Academy homepage notice, terminal notice, SilverPass push notification or date-specific schedule.
Scheduled vs real-time

Timetable Time vs Live Bus Location

Timetable times are planned departure/arrival times. Academy’s SilverPass tools can provide route information and real-time bus tracking where available. Traffic through New Jersey, tunnels, Manhattan and Downtown streets can change actual travel time.

1
Open timetable

Find the planned trip and correct pickup column.

2
Check app

Use SilverPass to review the route and service notices.

3
Track vehicle

Watch the approaching bus when live information is available.

4
Reach stop early

Be ready before the listed departure rather than arriving exactly on the minute.

5
Recheck return

NYC departure gate, stop or service condition may differ later in the day.

Practical arrival buffer: reach a roadside stop or park-and-ride about 10 minutes before your scheduled departure. At Port Authority or an unfamiliar terminal, allow more time to locate the gate.
Rider policies

Baggage, Children, Pets and Onboard Rules

Baggage Personal baggage travels subject to available space. Academy does not check baggage and states that it assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged baggage or contents.
Children under 5 A child under age 5 accompanied by an adult may ride free if the child does not occupy a seat to the exclusion of another passenger.
Service animals Pets are generally not permitted, but a service animal accompanying a disabled passenger is permitted at no additional charge, subject to Academy’s published conditions.
No food or drink Academy’s commuter rules prohibit smoking, eating, drinking and littering on board.
Cell phones Academy asks passengers to limit cell-phone use to urgent matters while on board.
Lost tickets Lost, stolen or unreadable tickets/passes are not replaced under the published policy.
Reduced fare and mobility

Senior, Disability and Mobility-Aid Information

Senior fare Academy states that passengers age 62 or older qualify for senior reduced fare, with valid identification required when requested.
Disability reduced fare Academy says eligible passengers must present an NJ Transit Reduced Fare ID or Medicare Card to receive the disability fare on applicable services.
Mobility devices Mobility aids may travel inside when they can be safely stored; larger devices may be placed in the baggage compartment when possible. Academy asks riders to allow extra boarding time.
