What Time Does the B20 Bus Start and End?

The published weekday B20 timetable begins with an early departure around 4:53 AM toward Spring Creek and a 5:45 AM departure from the Spring Creek postal facility toward Ridgewood. Service continues through the evening, with some trips crossing midnight.

To Spring Creek 4:53 AM Early weekday scheduled trip; check its exact starting stop.
To Ridgewood 5:45 AM First listed weekday departure from the postal-facility terminal.

Operating hours and frequency

B20 Weekday, Saturday and Sunday Schedule

The B20 operates on all seven days, but weekday service is more frequent than weekend service. Timetables also differ according to whether you are traveling toward Ridgewood or Spring Creek.

Service day Typical pattern Important detail
Monday–Friday Frequent commuter-period service, with some intervals around 8–12 minutes. Selected B20 trips may start at an intermediate stop. Check the actual terminal departure.
Saturday Regular local service, generally less frequent than weekday rush hours. Use the separate Saturday table; do not copy weekday departure times.
Sunday Regular Sunday local service, with wider gaps during some periods. Holiday operation may follow Sunday service even when the holiday falls on a weekday.

How Often Does the B20 Run?

Rush hours More frequent
Midday Moderate
Late evening Less frequent

The bars are illustrative comparisons, not exact measured frequencies or guarantees. The MTA’s date-specific timetable determines the actual interval.

B20 Holiday Schedule

The MTA B20 timetable lists the following holiday operating patterns:

Sunday timetable holidays New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Saturday timetable holiday Independence Day, under the published B20 holiday notes.
Reduced weekday holidays Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving, under the published holiday rules.
Other dates The timetable generally uses the normal service-day pattern unless the MTA publishes a special change or alert.

For system-wide Brooklyn bus schedule instructions and MTA holiday rules, our New York City MTA bus schedules and live arrival guide explains how to navigate the five boroughs’ route directories and timetables.

Scheduled departure examples

B20 Bus Departure Times: Weekday Examples

The following examples are scheduled departures drawn from MTA timetable/GTFS-based route information. They are not live predictions. Each set refers to a specific starting stop.

Spring Creek Postal Facility → Ridgewood

Selected weekday departures from Postal Facility Road at the facility, toward Ridgewood/Forest Avenue:

Time of day Selected departures What riders should know
Early morning 5:45, 6:00, 6:12 AM First listed terminal departures; check which stop you are using.
Morning commute 7:03, 7:11, 7:19 AM Frequent service in the published peak-period example.
Late morning 10:08, 10:23, 10:38 AM Approximately 15-minute spacing in this part of the timetable.
Afternoon 3:03, 3:15, 3:27 PM Useful examples for afternoon planning.
Evening 9:00, 9:20, 9:40 PM Intervals become wider after the commuter period.
After midnight 12:00, 12:20, 12:45, 1:25 AM These late departures belong to the overnight continuation of the service day; confirm the date in the trip planner.

Ridgewood → Spring Creek

Selected weekday departures in the Ridgewood direction’s opposite service, toward the Brooklyn Mail Facility:

Time Starting location Direction
4:53 AM 67 Avenue / Fresh Pond Road area East New York / Postal Facility
5:02 AM Putnam Avenue / Forest Avenue East New York / Postal Facility
5:18 AM 67 Avenue / Fresh Pond Road area East New York / Postal Facility
5:23 AM Putnam Avenue / Forest Avenue East New York / Postal Facility
Important first-bus exception: A 4:53 AM B20 toward Spring Creek does not automatically mean a bus departs Putnam Avenue/Forest Avenue at 4:53 AM. Some scheduled trips start at intermediate Ridgewood stops. The first listed trip from Putnam Avenue/Forest Avenue is 5:02 AM in the weekday example.

How Long Does a B20 Journey Take?

Selected published trips between the route ends take approximately 40–60 minutes, but running times vary with traffic, school periods, boarding delays, roadwork and service direction.

For example, a published westbound scheduled trip beginning at 4:53 AM near Fresh Pond Road reaches the postal-facility terminal at 5:37 AM, a 44-minute trip. This example is not a guarantee for every departure.

For an exact travel estimate, enter your boarding and destination stops in the MTA Trip Planner and use the corresponding date and time.

How to View the Official B20 Route Map

  1. Open MTA Bus Time — B20.
  2. Select “to Ridgewood Forest Av” or “to East New York Stanley Av Postal Fac.”
  3. Scroll through the official stops in travel order.
  4. Choose your boarding stop.
  5. Confirm the displayed street and route direction.
  6. Check nearby service alerts and current approaching buses.

For walking directions to a specific B20 stop, our Google Maps bus-stop and transit directions guide explains how to identify the correct curb, compare walking routes and check whether a map is showing scheduled or predicted arrival times.

Subway transfer guide

Where Does B20 Connect to the Subway?

The B20 is useful for cross-neighborhood travel because it passes several subway corridors. A connection may require walking from the bus stop to the station entrance.

Nearby subway area Lines B20 rider note
Broadway Junction A, C, J, L, Z Major East New York transfer hub. Check which B20 stop and station entrance best match your direction.
Alabama Avenue J, Z Useful connection near Fulton Street and Alabama Avenue.
Pennsylvania Avenue 3 Nearby connection in East New York; check the walking path from Pennsylvania Avenue stops.
Liberty Avenue C Local connection near the Pennsylvania Avenue corridor.
Wilson Avenue L Relevant for Bushwick trips near Wilson Avenue.
Halsey Street / Bushwick area L Additional L train access depending on your B20 stop.
Fresh Pond Road M Useful Ridgewood connection along the Fresh Pond Road corridor.
Subway transfer accessibility: A subway station being close to the B20 does not mean the station has step-free access at every entrance. Check MTA elevator status and accessible station information before planning a wheelchair-accessible transfer.

How to Transfer at Broadway Junction

  1. Check whether your B20 is approaching Broadway Junction from Ridgewood or Spring Creek.
  2. Find the bus stop closest to the station entrance you need.
  3. Get off after the bus has stopped safely.
  4. Follow signs toward the A/C or J/L/Z subway platforms.
  5. Check train direction, current service changes and platform access.
  6. Use the same eligible OMNY card or device for a qualifying bus-to-subway transfer.

Open MTA subway and Brooklyn bus maps to verify actual station entrances and service connections.

Current and dated detours

B20 Bus Service Alerts and Temporary Stop Closures

Recent MTA Bus Time notices identify several affected B20 stops. These notices are important because a normal timetable may still display a stop that is temporarily unavailable.

Northbound B20 — Linden Boulevard / Crescent Street

The northbound stop at Linden Boulevard and Crescent Street is reported closed due to roadwork. The MTA directs riders to Linden Boulevard at Autumn Avenue or Euclid Avenue instead.

Notice posted October 19, 2026; marked until further notice. Verify whether it remains active.

Spring Creek-bound B20/B83 — Pennsylvania Avenue / Livonia Avenue

The Spring Creek-bound stop on Pennsylvania Avenue at Livonia Avenue is reported closed. Use the stops at Pennsylvania Avenue and Dumont Avenue or Riverdale Avenue.

Roadwork notice posted August 26, 2026; marked until further notice.

October 31–November 1, 2026: Van Sinderen Avenue / Fulton Street

A temporary southbound B20 stop change is announced from Saturday, October 31 at 6:00 AM through Sunday, November 1 at 8:00 PM, New York local time.

The B20 is scheduled to skip Van Sinderen Avenue at Fulton Street and use Fulton Street at Van Sinderen Avenue instead. The notice identifies Broadway/Hull Street and Fulton Street/Alabama Avenue as other normal-service stops.

What to Do if Your B20 Stop Is Closed

1 Open alerts Check the current MTA B20 notice.
2 Read dates Confirm that the notice applies now.
3 Match direction Ridgewood or Spring Creek.
4 Find replacement Follow the listed stop location.
5 Recheck Bus Time Review arrivals for the replacement stop.

Check live B20 detours on MTA Bus Time.

Detours affect predictions. MTA notes that arrival information may be unavailable or inaccurate while a bus is rerouted. A detour’s stop names and dates are more useful than relying on the normal map alone.
2026 fares and payment

How Much Is the B20 Bus Fare?

The B20 is an MTA local bus, not an express bus. The regular adult local bus fare is $3.00 under the MTA fare changes effective January 4, 2026.

Regular fare $3.00 Most adult riders
Reduced fare $1.50 Eligible seniors and riders with qualifying disabilities
OMNY weekly cap $35.00 Regular rolling seven-day fare cap, when eligible
Children Free* Children under 44 inches tall when accompanied by a paying adult, subject to MTA rules

*Check MTA’s current child-fare rules and applicable limits. Reduced fare and fare-cap eligibility require the correct payment method or account.

How to Pay Using OMNY

  1. Prepare an OMNY card, accepted contactless credit/debit card, smartphone or wearable.
  2. Wait until the B20 stops and the front door opens.
  3. Tap the OMNY reader by the entrance.
  4. Confirm the payment is accepted.
  5. Use the same card or device for eligible transfers and fare-cap progress.

Open the official OMNY information website to learn about payment methods and fare capping.

Can You Still Use a MetroCard?

MetroCard sales and refills ended at the start of 2026. Existing valid MetroCards may remain accepted during the transition, but MTA is moving the network to OMNY. Verify the current acceptance end date rather than relying on a saved 2025 timetable.

What About Cash?

The B20 timetable effective August 2025 describes exact-change coin payment. However, MTA’s 2026 transition includes plans to end onboard coin payments when MetroCard acceptance ends. Because implementation can change, check the current official bus-payment guidance before relying on cash.

Practical payment recommendation: OMNY or another current MTA-supported contactless method is the most reliable default. Do not assume that an older printed PDF accurately describes every payment option accepted in late 2026.

Check current MTA subway and local bus fares.

Nearby routes and travel choices

B20 vs Q8: Which Bus Helps in East New York and Spring Creek?

B20 and Q8 serve different corridors, even though both are relevant to East New York and the wider Spring Creek area.

B20 — Ridgewood to Spring Creek

Best when you need the Pennsylvania Avenue, Broadway Junction, Bushwick, Decatur Street or Fresh Pond Road corridor.

Key destination: Ridgewood / Forest Avenue or Brooklyn Mail Facility.

Q8 — Jamaica to Gateway Center

Useful for trips along the 101 Avenue corridor between Jamaica, East New York and the Gateway Center area.

Key destination: Jamaica or Gateway Center.

If your actual destination is Gateway Center shopping rather than the B20 postal-facility terminal, check our Q8 schedule for Gateway Center, East New York and Jamaica. Compare both routes in the trip planner to determine whether an additional bus or walk is needed.

Need Manhattan Instead of Ridgewood?

B20 is a Brooklyn/Queens local bus. It does not continue into Manhattan. Depending on where you are boarding and the time of day, you can consider a subway transfer at Broadway Junction or another service serving southern Brooklyn and Manhattan.

For a different travel pattern from the Canarsie/Spring Creek area to Manhattan, our BM2 Brooklyn–Manhattan express bus timetable explains the higher express fare, Manhattan stopping patterns and weekday/weekend differences. BM2 is not a direct replacement for every B20 trip, so compare origins and transfer requirements first.

MTA real-time tracking

How to Track the B20 Bus Live

MTA Bus Time shows buses approaching selected B20 stops when vehicle data is available. The service distinguishes trips toward Ridgewood Forest Avenue and East New York / Stanley Avenue Postal Facility.

1 Open Bus Time Go to the MTA B20 route page.
2 Choose direction Ridgewood or Spring Creek.
3 Find your stop Use the intersection or stop code.
4 Read arrival Check minutes or stops away.
5 Check alerts Confirm stop closures and detours.

Open MTA B20 live bus arrivals.

What MTA Bus Time Messages Mean

Approaching A vehicle is being tracked near the stop. Read its destination sign before boarding.
At terminal A bus is at its terminal. It may be waiting before starting its next scheduled trip.
No buses en route No currently tracked bus is approaching that stop. This does not prove that the entire B20 service is canceled.
Stale or scheduled data Vehicle-location information may be old or unavailable. Confirm against the timetable and service alerts.

Arrival predictions can change due to traffic, dispatching, construction and GPS reporting. Use the stop-specific display rather than assuming a route-wide departure is your stop’s arrival.

No app required

Check B20 Arrivals by Text Message

MTA Bus Time also allows riders to request arrival information using SMS. This is particularly useful for passengers who do not want to navigate a map or have limited mobile data access.

Send to 511123 MTA Bus Time text-message service
Message format STOPCODE B20 Enter your actual six-digit stop code, one space, and B20.

Texting Micro-Steps

  1. Find the six-digit stop code posted on the bus-stop sign or schedule box.
  2. Open your phone’s text-message app.
  3. Enter 511123 as the recipient.
  4. Type your six-digit stop code followed by a space and B20.
  5. Send the message.
  6. Read the returned next-bus information.
  7. Check any service-change marker or warning.
Do not text only “B20” if you need a stop arrival. MTA explains that sending only a route number does not identify your boarding stop. The stop code is the most precise search method. Standard carrier message charges may apply.

Read the official MTA Bus Time text-message instructions.

Accessible travel information

B20 Wheelchair Accessibility, Reduced Fares and Bus Stops

MTA local buses provide accessible boarding equipment and designated areas for riders using mobility devices. However, a bus being accessible does not guarantee that every sidewalk, stop or subway connection is step-free.

Wheelchair boarding Check the bus ramp, boarding position and wheelchair securement arrangements. Signal the bus operator when assistance is needed.
Reduced fare Eligible seniors and riders with qualifying disabilities can use MTA reduced-fare programs. The published 2026 half fare is $1.50 for a regular $3 trip.
Accessible stop path Check sidewalks, curb ramps, crossings, snow/ice conditions and any temporary construction relocation before traveling.

Accessible Transfer Planning at Broadway Junction

Broadway Junction offers important subway connections, but accessibility depends on the relevant station entrance and platform access. Do not assume that every A/C/J/L/Z transfer is fully step-free.

  1. Open the MTA accessibility page.
  2. Find the subway stations involved in your journey.
  3. Check elevator availability, step-free station access and any current outages.
  4. Confirm the B20 stop and accessible pedestrian path to the station.
  5. Use the trip planner to compare an alternative transfer point if necessary.
  6. Allow additional time for transfers and boarding.

Check official MTA accessibility information.

Access-A-Ride

Passengers who cannot use fixed-route buses or subways because of a qualifying disability may be eligible for MTA Access-A-Ride paratransit. It is a separate service with its own eligibility and reservation procedures.

Official timetable document

Download the B20 Bus Schedule PDF

The MTA’s published B20 timetable is labeled effective August 31, 2025 and includes weekday, Saturday, Sunday and holiday instructions. It provides scheduled times at selected major stops, rather than every local stop.

Fare date vs schedule date The timetable’s 2025 effective date does not make its old fare text current. The local bus fare increased to $3 on January 4, 2026. Always check the latest fare guidance separately.

How to Read the B20 PDF

  1. Open MTA B20 official timetable.
  2. Confirm that the document says B20 Ridgewood–Spring Creek.
  3. Read the effective date and the weekday/weekend heading.
  4. Find the correct direction.
  5. Locate your nearest printed timepoint.
  6. Read across the row to follow the same scheduled trip.
  7. Check whether the bus starts at a full terminal or intermediate stop.
  8. Use Bus Time for your exact stop and any current rerouting.
Weekday tables B20’s weekday schedules show early and late service and more frequent trips during commuter periods.
Weekend tables Saturday and Sunday have separate schedules. Use the appropriate table for the actual travel date.
Timetable footnotes Route and holiday notes can affect which departures are valid for a particular date.

If a search result surfaces an older B20 PDF, compare its effective date with the current MTA schedule page and any recent service change notices.

Real-world rider problems

B20 Bus Problems and What to Do

My B20 bus is not showing in live tracking.

Check whether only scheduled information is available, whether the bus is at a terminal, and whether a detour is affecting GPS predictions.

The posted stop is closed.

Read the MTA detour and use the specified replacement stop. Do not assume the next intersection serves the same direction.

I am waiting on Decatur Street but cannot find my return B20.

Check the opposite direction’s official stop list. Spring Creek-bound buses use Summerfield and Schaefer streets through parts of Bushwick.

The first bus time seems inconsistent.

Some early trips begin at intermediate stops. Compare the schedule’s first timepoint with the normal route terminal.

My OMNY transfer did not apply.

Check the time window and whether you used the same card or device. Different devices connected to the same bank account may be treated separately for fare purposes.

I missed the last available trip.

Check the next scheduled B20 or an alternative subway/bus route using the MTA Trip Planner. Do not automatically assume that a late trip exists at your stop.
