TCAT Uses Different Winter-Spring, Summer and Fall Schedules

A TCAT route can have different frequency, first trips, late-night service or even seasonal availability depending on the time of year. Always make sure the timetable heading matches the date you are traveling.

Winter-Spring 2026 January 11 – May 23 This service period has ended. Do not use an old Winter-Spring PDF for an August trip.

Summer 2026 May 24 – August 15 Summer schedules remain the controlling tables through Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Fall 2026 Starts Sunday, August 16 TCAT’s August 7 service announcement says Fall service runs through Saturday, December 19, followed by a separately labeled holiday schedule.

Official-site date discrepancy: TCAT’s homepage currently shows the Fall period ending January 16, while its schedules page and August 7 Fall 2026 announcement say December 19. The newer Fall announcement also says a holiday schedule will follow December 19. For any trip after December 19, reopen the official schedules page rather than relying on an older Fall table.

Best TCAT Routes for Popular Ithaca and Tompkins County Destinations

This section is designed for riders who know the destination but not the route number. Exact service depends on time and day.

Cornell University Route 10 is the core downtown–Cornell weekday loop. Routes 30, 32, 51, 81, 82, 90 and 92 also cover important campus trips, with several county routes serving Cornell at selected times.

Ithaca College Route 11 is the primary Commons–South Hill–Ithaca College service. Academic-period Route 11S adds weekend access between IC and southwest shopping.

Ithaca Tompkins International Airport Route 32 is the principal TCAT route linking downtown and Cornell with ITH Airport.

Shops at Ithaca Mall Route 30 serves the mall on weekdays through Cornell; Route 30W uses a weekend pattern that includes West and North Campus.

Cayuga Medical Center Route 14 is the primary West Hill / hospital service from downtown Ithaca.

Tompkins Cortland Community College Route 43 serves Dryden and TC3. Some trips labeled 43G extend toward Groton.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology Route 31/31W serves the Sapsucker Woods and Lab of Ornithology area.

Trumansburg Route 21 connects downtown Ithaca with Jacksonville, Ulysses and Trumansburg.

Enfield Route 20 provides the primary fixed-route connection between downtown Ithaca and Enfield.

Newfield Route 67 connects the Commons, southwest Ithaca and Newfield.

Danby Route 65 is the primary weekday TCAT service for Danby.

Freeville & Groton Route 40 serves Freeville and Groton; selected Route 43G trips also connect the Groton area.

How the TCAT Network Spreads Out from Ithaca

This is a simplified orientation diagram built from the official route descriptions. It is not a geographic street map and should not be used to locate a precise bus stop.

Why the Commons matters: many TCAT routes either begin downtown, pass through downtown or connect there with another route. Cornell is the other major network hub, especially during the academic year.

TCAT Fall 2026 Schedule Changes That Matter Most

Fall service increases capacity as Cornell University and Ithaca College students return. TCAT’s published Fall changes are not merely a date swap: several routes gain frequency, later trips or academic-only service.

Route 10 gets much more frequent From 9 a.m. through noon on weekdays, TCAT says Route 10 will operate about every 6 minutes. Service also continues later, with the final published downtown departure at 7:12 p.m.

Route 30 peak service increases Weekday peak frequency improves to about every 10 minutes between downtown, Cornell and Ithaca Mall.

Route 81 increases campus frequency Cornell campus Route 81 is scheduled about every 9 minutes between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., with additional evening trips.

Route 11 late IC trips return TCAT says the final buses back to Ithaca College are around 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday; Sunday ends substantially earlier.

Route 90 goes later again Fall weekday Route 90 service includes a 2 a.m. departure from Green @ Commons toward Cornell. Saturday service also operates late into the night.

Route 92 returns Cornell evening/night Route 92 resumes for the academic period. Late weekday service extends past 2 a.m., but construction affects the normal route.

Route 20 gains a weekday afternoon trip A new Fall trip departs Green @ Commons at 1:06 p.m., with the corresponding Enfield Park & Ride trip at 1:31 p.m.

Route 21 gains a midday trip A new weekday trip leaves Green @ Commons at noon, with a 12:31 p.m. inbound departure from the Compass community area.

Routes 22 and 23 end These are Summer seasonal park services. Do not look for them as regular Fall routes after the Summer period ends.

Never reuse Summer departure times after August 15. Several Fall routes change by only a few minutes, while others change frequency, operate later or return after not running during Summer.

Stop relocation: TCAT’s Fall Route 10 table says the Seneca @ Commons stop is moved to Tioga @ Buffalo until further notice. Check the live alert immediately before boarding because temporary downtown stops can change.

How to Read a TCAT Bus Schedule Without Choosing the Wrong Trip

Confirm the service period. Look for Summer, Fall or Winter-Spring in the timetable heading.

Select the correct service day. A Monday–Friday table may be very different from Saturday or Sunday.

Confirm the direction and destination. Do not assume every trip numbered 30, 31, 43 or another route serves the same terminal or branch.

Find the nearest timepoint. TCAT tables show major stops rather than every physical stop. Your boarding stop may fall between two printed timepoints.

Read footnotes and special symbols. Demand stops, route continuations, seasonal trips and short-turn patterns can completely change whether the bus serves your location.

Look at “continues as” information. Some buses change route numbers while allowing riders to remain onboard for a one-seat ride.

Check the live tracker. A printed timetable is planned service; Bus Tracker shows what is happening now.

Dash “–” Usually means that trip does not serve the listed timepoint. It should not be treated as a missing time.

Demand stop Some locations require advance notice or a request to the driver. Route 32’s Arrowwood Road service is an important example.

Continues as Route # The same bus may continue under another route number. Check the table before getting off unnecessarily.

TCAT Bus Fare, Pass Prices and Payment Methods

TCAT uses a flat base fare. The important difference is not only the price—it is whether your payment method qualifies for fare capping, transfers or a prepaid pass.

American Express is not accepted at TCAT fareboxes.

Daily fare cap: TCAT says rechargeable smart cards and the Tfare app stop charging additional single-ride fares after two qualifying rides in the service day. The cap does not apply to bank cards, digital wallets, disposable cards or cash.

How TCAT Transfers Work

If one bus does not reach your destination, a transfer can let you complete a continuous one-way trip without paying a second fare when TCAT’s transfer rules are met.

Ask for the transfer Cash or eligible single-ride users should follow the current farebox process for obtaining a transfer slip when another bus is required.

Use the next reasonable bus Transfers are intended for completing a continuous one-way journey on the same service day.

Not a free return trip TCAT does not describe a transfer as a way to ride back, make a loop or simply re-board the same route for free.

One-seat ride can be easier than a transfer: several TCAT trips interline and continue as another route. Read the “continues as Route #” column before getting off.

Cornell • Ithaca College • TC3

TCAT for Cornell, Ithaca College and TC3 Riders

Cornell University TCAT’s current fare information says new-to-Cornell students receive first-year riding privileges. Other Cornell transit privileges depend on the university’s current program and ID configuration.

Ithaca College TCAT’s current fare page says Ithaca College students, faculty and staff use a subsidized Tfare arrangement. Academic-year agreements can change, so verify eligibility before assuming the fare is free.

Tompkins Cortland Community College Route 43 is the key TC3 route. TCAT also publishes special TC3 fare products; check the current college rider page before buying a regular pass.

Cornell ID problem? TCAT directs questions about riding privileges or passes loaded onto Cornell IDs to Cornell Transportation at 607-255-4600.

ITH airport connection

TCAT Route 32 to Ithaca Tompkins International Airport

Route 32 is the principal fixed-route option between downtown Ithaca, Cornell and Ithaca Tompkins International Airport. It also serves neighborhoods and employment areas along the Warren Road corridor.

From downtown Confirm Route 32 is heading toward Cornell and the airport rather than toward the Commons.

From Cornell Use the official Route 32 stop and direction table because campus boarding locations differ by travel direction.

Allow flight buffer A published bus time is not a guaranteed arrival. For a flight, check live tracking, construction alerts and the next backup trip.

Arrowwood Road demand stop: TCAT says riders boarding at Arrowwood must give advance notice by calling 607-277-RIDE (7433). Riders getting off should alert the driver in advance.

Academic-year late service

TCAT Night Buses: Routes 90 and 92

Fall service restores much of the late-night network reduced during Summer. These buses matter for Cornell students, late-shift workers and downtown riders, but the final departure differs sharply by day.

Route 90 — Downtown / Cornell Nights Fall weekday service includes a final departure from Green @ Commons at 2:00 a.m. toward campus. TCAT says the final Saturday departure is 1:55 a.m., while Sunday ends earlier at 10:20 p.m.

Route 92 — Cornell Evening / Night Fall service returns after the Summer suspension. TCAT’s Fall announcement lists the final weekday departure from Schwartz Performing Arts Center toward Hasbrouck at 2:49 a.m.; Saturday’s equivalent final trip is earlier.

Late-night rule: do not infer tonight’s last bus from a weekday headline. Friday/Saturday/Sunday patterns can differ, and Route 92 has an active construction detour.

Understand the difference: a timetable is the planned schedule; a prediction estimates the arrival; a vehicle marker shows a reported location; an alert explains a disruption. One does not replace the others.

TCAT Detours and Stop Changes Riders Should Know About

These are current examples from TCAT’s own alert area. They can change without notice, so always check Bus Tracker before using the instructions below.

Route 10 — Downtown stop relocation TCAT moved Route 10 service from the former Seneca Street boarding location to Tioga @ Buffalo. The Fall timetable itself also carries the relocation notice.

Route 31 — Cornell construction detour Weekday service is detouring because of Campus Road / Garden Avenue construction. TCAT reports the Rockefeller stop moved to Milstein Hall and the Uris stop moved to Sage Hall.

Route 92 — Long-term construction detour TCAT says Route 92 is affected by construction at Fall Creek Drive / Stewart Avenue through roughly mid-November 2026 and cannot follow its normal Stewart/Thurston-area routing.

Fixed-route accessibility

Wheelchair Access, Stop Announcements and ADA Service

TCAT states that all fixed-route buses are equipped with a wheelchair lift or ramp. Drivers can also lower the bus or deploy accessibility equipment upon request.

Kneeling bus Riders may ask the operator to lower the bus. TCAT says proof of disability is not required simply to request the bus be lowered.

Major stop announcements TCAT announces major intersections, transfer points and major destinations and will announce a requested stop for a passenger with a disability.

Accessible schedule formats Large-print and Braille schedules are available on request through TCAT.

Hailing cards Route-number hailing cards are available for riders who may have difficulty identifying or signaling the correct bus.

Service animals ADA-qualified service animals are allowed when under the rider’s control and must not occupy a passenger seat.

Cannot use fixed route because of a disability? You may be eligible for complementary ADA paratransit. Reservations are operated through Gadabout at 607-273-1878.

Taking a Bicycle on a TCAT Bus

Every TCAT bus has a front bicycle rack, and TCAT does not charge an additional bike fare.

Rack capacity Older buses carry up to two bicycles; newer buses may carry up to three. Space is first-come, first-served.

Driver cannot load it for you Riders must be physically able to load and unload their own bicycle.

Tell the driver Let the operator know before loading or unloading, and approach from the curb side.

Remove loose equipment Pumps or other items that could fall off should be removed before placing the bike in the rack.

Folding bikes Folding bikes may be carried inside when safely stowed and kept out of the aisle.

Regular bikes stay outside Non-folding bicycles cannot be brought into the passenger compartment and must use the exterior rack.

Practical TCAT Advice for Visitors and First-Time Riders

For one or two rides A contactless Mastercard, Visa or Discover can be convenient because you can tap directly at the farebox without first buying a TCAT card.

For repeated rides in one day A rechargeable Tcard or Tfare can be more useful because those payment methods qualify for TCAT’s daily fare cap.

For a campus visit Identify the exact building or campus area first. Cornell Central, North, West and East Hill are not served identically by every route.

For a state-park trip Routes 22 and 23 are Summer seasonal services. Do not expect them to operate during Fall simply because an old search result shows a parks timetable.
