SMART is southeast Michigan’s regional transit provider, connecting communities across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties with fixed routes, FAST limited-stop buses, Flex microtransit, Connector rides and ADA paratransit.
This guide explains how to select a route, read the current timetable, find the correct stop, track an approaching bus, pay the right fare and avoid using an outdated system map or future service proposal as a current schedule.
Where Can You Find the Current SMART Bus Schedule?
Use SMART’s live schedule lookup when you need an exact trip. Select the route, direction, service day, boarding stop and exit stop rather than trying to read the entire regional map as a timetable.
Stop arrival estimate
Open Tracker Time or text SMART + stop ID to 41411.
Do not use the route number alone. Confirm the destination direction and service day. A weekday departure, Saturday departure and Sunday departure may be different or unavailable.
Map versus schedule: the June 22, 2026 system map is useful for route coverage and transfers. The live schedule selector is the better source for departure times and recent timetable adjustments.
SMART Operates More Than One Type of Transportation
A fixed-route schedule cannot be used to reserve a Connector ride, and a Flex zone does not work like a bus route with permanent stops. Start by identifying the service you need.

SMART Bus Schedule Changes Riders Should Know in 2026
Students ride fixed routes free
K–12, college and university students can ride SMART fixed-route buses free with valid student identification.
Route extensions
Route 350 was extended to Commerce Township Walmart, while Route 405 was extended west to connect with Route 350.
Detroit and Macomb changes
Route 610 was extended into downtown Detroit, and Route 780 was extended east to Harper and Metro Parkway.
Not active yet
Proposed Route 500 Mound/Hamtramck and Route 250 improvements were announced as contingent on the August 4 Wayne County ballot measure.
Do not plan a current trip around a future proposal. As of August 3, 2026, the September 7 changes were still presented as contingent. Recheck SMART’s official service-change page after the ballot result and before using a new timetable.
Select the route number and route name.
Confirm that a local, FAST, express, crosstown or Park & Ride route is the service you intended.
Select the destination direction.
Use the final destination or terminal shown in the selector rather than assuming that inbound always means Detroit.
Select the service day.
Weekday, Saturday and Sunday schedules can show different stops, operating spans and trip frequency.
Choose the nearest listed boarding stop.
SMART warns that not every stop is listed. Select the official timepoint closest to your actual stop.
Select the destination stop.
Enable “view all stops in between” when you need to understand the route sequence.
Set a practical time window.
Narrow the timetable to the period when you plan to travel rather than scanning an entire day.
Check real-time information before leaving.
Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled arrival.
Scheduled time is not a live prediction. The schedule shows the planned trip. Tracker Time estimates the approaching bus using vehicle data.

Frequent limited-stop service
SMART FAST Routes: Michigan, Woodward and Gratiot
FAST stands for Frequent, Affordable, Safe Transit. FAST buses use designated stops located roughly one mile apart and operate seven days a week, including late nights and weekends.
261 FAST Michigan
Serves destinations along Michigan Avenue, including Dearborn connections and Detroit Metro Airport trips.
461/462 FAST Woodward
Links downtown Detroit with Woodward destinations, Pontiac and Auburn Hills-area branches.
561 FAST Gratiot
Provides limited-stop service between downtown Detroit and Gratiot corridor destinations.
FAST buses do not stop at every local bus stop. Look for the FAST sign and use Route 560, Woodward local service or Michigan Avenue local service when your destination is between FAST stops.
The official map is effective June 22, 2026 and shows fixed routes, FAST corridors, Flex zones, transit hubs, Park & Ride routes, major destinations and transfer locations.

Why a bus may disappear: SMART states that only buses arriving within the next 30 minutes appear. A bus may also disappear when it leaves the normal route, stops transmitting data or becomes delayed by an unusual event.

SMART Bus Fares, DART Passes and Student Travel
All single-trip fares are one-way. Reduced-fare riders must carry acceptable identification, and pass validity differs between fixed route, Flex, Connector, ADA and DDOT services.

SMART Flex is not a normal bus route. Riders request an on-demand trip within a defined zone and receive a pickup location and estimated arrival through the service platform.
Dearborn-area zone
Includes Dearborn, Allen Park, Melvindale and selected portions of nearby Downriver communities.
Troy / Clawson zone
Provides flexible first-mile and last-mile connections in the Troy and Clawson area.
Auburn Hills / Pontiac zone
Connects destinations within the designated Pontiac and Auburn Hills operating area.
Hall Road zone

First/last-mile use
Flex can connect riders to fixed routes, FAST stops, workplaces, retail and local destinations.
Confirm that both locations are inside a Flex zone.
A nearby address outside the boundary may not be eligible.
Request the ride when you are nearly ready.
Flex is on demand rather than an advance-reservation timetable.
Review the pickup point.
The vehicle may meet you at a nearby safe corner rather than directly at the entered doorway.
Allow time for shared travel.
Other riders can be picked up or dropped off during the trip.

SMART Connector Eligibility, Hours, Fare and Booking
Connector is curb-to-curb transportation for older adults, people with disabilities and eligible full-fare riders with limited access to fixed-route service.
General operating hours
Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., except major holidays.
Reservation number
Call 866-962-5515 and follow the Connector reservation prompts.
Trip distance
Connector trips are generally limited to ten miles or travel to the closest fixed route.
Medical booking
Medical trips may be requested up to six business days in advance.
General booking
Shopping, work, school and other trips may be requested up to two business days in advance.
Pickup window
Riders receive a 30-minute pickup window and should be ready at its beginning.
No same-day requests: reservations must generally be received by 4 p.m. one day before service. The vehicle waits approximately three minutes at pickup.
ADA Paratransit is for people whose disability prevents them from using an accessible fixed-route bus. An approved SMART ADA certification is required.
Service relationship
ADA service mirrors the days and hours when the related fixed route operates.
Eligible trip area
Pickup and drop-off generally must be within three-quarters of a mile of an eligible fixed-route stop.
Fare
The published ADA fare is $3 each way, including transfers.
Personal care attendant
An approved PCA rides free when the certification identifies that need.
Door-to-door request
Approved riders may request door-to-door assistance through the ADA Coordinator.

Application timing: SMART states that an eligibility determination is mailed within 21 days after receiving a complete application.
How to Find the Correct SMART Bus Stop and Transfer
Match the route number on the stop sign.
A road can be served by local, FAST and express routes that use different stopping patterns.
Check the direction and street side.
Stops at the same intersection may serve opposite destinations.
Record the stop ID.
The stop number is needed for Tracker Time or text-message arrivals.
Check temporary notices.
Road construction, events and weather can move the boarding location.
Identify the transfer location.
Use the system map and schedule tool to confirm whether the routes share the same curb, bay or transit center.
Allow transfer time.
A live prediction can change, and a scheduled connection is not guaranteed when the first bus is delayed.

Check the terminal and trip pattern. Do not assume every trip serves the same airport terminal or intermediate location. Open the current route timetable and allow extra time for baggage, security and terminal walking.

Accessible bus does not guarantee an accessible stop. Snow, missing sidewalks, construction, steep slopes or temporary relocation can make a boarding point difficult to reach.
