Use this guide to identify the current route, understand MARTA timetable timepoints, compare service frequency, check fares, find Reach on-demand zones, view official maps and move from a printed schedule to a real-time bus prediction.
For a trip today, start with MARTA’s current NextGen route directory or Trip Planner rather than an old search-result timetable. MARTA’s current route library identifies schedules as effective April 18, 2026.

NextGen was MARTA’s first systemwide bus-network redesign since the early bus era. The changes were not limited to adjusting a few departure times; routes, stop patterns, connections and service frequencies were reworked across the network.
17 corridors are designed for buses every 15 minutes or better all day.

Do not use the old “MARTA has 91 routes” wording for current planning. MARTA’s present NextGen resource library lists 81 fixed-route entries plus 12 Reach zones.
The official transit-services map uses line style and color to communicate the type or typical frequency of a service. This coded key reproduces that information in an easier-to-read format.

Your pickup and drop-off must satisfy the applicable zone rules. The trip can be used for a local journey or a connection with MARTA fixed routes.
Traveling with a wheelchair or mobility scooter
MARTA instructs Reach users to choose the Mobility Aid option when booking so an accessible vehicle slot can be provided.

How to Read a MARTA Bus Schedule Without Choosing the Wrong Trip
MARTA’s 2026 route PDFs use numbered timepoints. Those timepoints are selected locations used to organize the timetable; they are not a list of every bus stop.

Compare the two closest timepoints around your stop or use the live stop prediction.
A missing time matters
MARTA says that when no time is shown for a timepoint, the bus does not pass that point on that trip.
Do not treat a timepoint as your exact stop unless the stop actually matches that timepoint. The bus may reach your intermediate stop several minutes before or after a nearby listed timepoint.

Transfer trap: a physical bank card and that same bank account inside a mobile wallet are treated as different payment methods. Switching between them can cause an additional fare instead of a free transfer.
Better Breeze update: old silver Breeze cards, old tickets and Breeze Mobile 2.0 do not work with the new fare system. Use current Better Breeze media or another accepted payment method.
The timetable tells you when a bus is planned to run. A real-time prediction estimates when a tracked vehicle will reach your stop. A cancellation or detour alert can override both.

Why a prediction can disappear: the bus may have lost vehicle-location data, ended its tracked trip, been reassigned, entered a detour or been removed from service. Check the scheduled trip and alert page before assuming another bus is immediately behind it.
MARTA also publishes official GTFS schedule data and GTFS-Realtime bus vehicle/trip feeds. Third-party transit apps may use those feeds, but MARTA remains the authoritative source for service changes.
Major Transfer Points Matter More Than Route Numbers Alone
Many MARTA bus trips work as a network rather than a single-seat ride. The correct transfer station can reduce walking, simplify directions and protect a free transfer.

Route 191 is named Riverdale / ATL International Terminal. Its current timetable connects Lakewood/Ft. McPherson Station, the ATL International Terminal, Riverdale Park & Ride and south Clayton County destinations.

MARTA states that its regular bus and rail services are accessible to riders with disabilities.
MARTA Mobility
Paratransit is for eligible customers whose disability prevents them from using fixed-route bus or rail under applicable eligibility criteria.
Reduced fare
Eligible seniors, people with disabilities and Medicare cardholders can qualify for MARTA’s $1 reduced fare.
Mobility fare on regular MARTA

Stop accessibility still matters
Construction, slopes and temporary boarding locations can make a specific stop more difficult even when the bus itself is accessible.

Bikes, Children, Pets and Carry-On Items on MARTA Buses
Bicycles
MARTA states that every bus has a front storage rack for two bicycles. Rack space is first come, first served.
Children
Children age 5 or younger who are 46 inches or shorter ride free, limited to two children per paying adult.
Service animals
Service animals assisting riders with disabilities may ride unconfined.
Other pets
Other animals must be carried in a secure rigid carrier with a lock or latch under MARTA’s published rules.
Loading a bicycle: place the bicycle on the front rack, secure the safety bar, and remind the bus operator before you exit that you need to retrieve the bike.
The regular weekday timetable does not apply on every holiday. MARTA’s published 2026 schedule assigns Saturday or Sunday bus service patterns to the dates below.

This is a useful example of MARTA’s current schedule design because it contains the route diagram, connections, timepoint legend, fare notes and separate weekday/weekend departure tables.

Choose the correct direction and final destination.

Check whether the route has a branch or special trip pattern.

Check active cancellations, reroutes and temporary stops.
Prepare the same fare method for every transfer.
Allow additional time for an important connection.

What to Do When the MARTA Bus Schedule Does Not Match What You See
The route number disappeared
It may have been replaced or restructured under NextGen. Use the official route crosswalk instead of assuming the bus was discontinued entirely.
The PDF and app show different information
Confirm the PDF effective date and check whether the app is showing a live prediction or active service change.
The live bus vanished
Recheck service alerts and the next scheduled departure. Vehicle tracking can disappear when an operating assignment changes.
The stop has moved
Look for temporary MARTA signage and an alert describing the replacement boarding point.
The bus passed without stopping
Verify that the vehicle was in service, your stop serves that direction and the trip pattern actually serves the stop.
You missed an hourly or low-frequency route
Do not simply wait without checking. Open the next scheduled trip and see whether another route, rail connection or Reach zone provides a better alternative.
Your fare was charged twice
Check whether you switched between a bank card, mobile wallet or another fare medium during the transfer.
Your old Breeze card does not work
MARTA’s Better Breeze transition retired old silver Breeze cards and Breeze Mobile 2.0 from the new system.
Lost Something on a MARTA Bus?
MARTA says the preferred first step is its online lost-item inquiry. An item can take up to five business days to reach Lost & Found after it is turned in.
Record the trip.
Write down the bus route, direction, boarding stop, exit stop, date and approximate time.
Describe the item.
Include color, brand, case, identifying marks and other information that proves ownership.
Submit the official inquiry.
MARTA prefers its Comments & Lost Item form so staff have a written record.
Allow processing time.
A driver may finish the route or shift before the item reaches Lost & Found.
Arrange retrieval.
The Five Points Lost & Found office currently operates by appointment because of Five Points construction.
