ECU Bus Schedule: Routes, Times & Stops
ECU Transit operates eight regular bus routes during Fall 2026, connecting East Carolina University’s Main Campus, Health Sciences Campus, student apartments, downtown Greenville and commuter parking areas. The buses are fare-free, and the university provides real-time tracking through BusTime.
The main campus circulator, 301 Gold, runs from 7:00 AM to 1:00 AM on regular weekdays and from 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM on regular weekends. Other regular routes generally run Monday–Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Semester breaks, holidays and football games can change these hours.
This guide covers all eight routes, exact timetable examples, nearby stops, the current service calendar, ECU Ride vans, disability access, airport connections and practical instructions for getting to class without missing the bus.
Which ECU Buses Are Running in Fall 2026?
The current Fall 2026 system lists 301 Gold, 302 Health Sciences, 403 Copper Beech/Pirates Cove/The Horizon, 405 Downtown, 502 East 10th Street, 504 The Landing, 506 Carolina Creek and 610 Minges Park & Ride.

ECU Bus Schedule Guide
All 8 ECU Transit Bus Routes and Where They Go
Each ECU route serves a different travel need. Choose the route by your destination or apartment complex, not simply by which bus arrives first.
301 Gold — Main Campus
ECU’s main campus circulator links the Main Campus Student Center, West End Bus Terminal, Life Sciences and Biotechnology area, College Hill, Curry Court, Minges and Christenbury Gym Bus Terminal.
Best for: traveling between campus buildings, residence halls, student centers and College Hill.
Local tip: the updated transfer area near Brewster and Christenbury Gym is important for finding connecting routes. Do not rely on an old 10th Street boarding location.
Official 301 Gold Timetable302 Health Sciences
Connects Main Campus Student Center with the Health Sciences Student Center, Health Sciences Building, Brody School of Medicine, ECU Health and locations along 5th Street.
Best for: medical campus classes, clinical rotations, Health Sciences facilities and ECU Health connections.
Local tip: the updated route includes 5th Street Greek Life and Health Sciences locations. Check the exact stop near your building rather than assuming every stop is at the hospital entrance.
Official 302 Health Sciences Schedule403 Copper Beech, Pirates Cove & The Horizon
This consolidated student-housing route serves the Copper Beech, Pirates Cove and The Horizon apartment areas. ECU’s 2026 routing information also identifies Village Green on 5th Street and Speight Bus Terminal as important points.
Best for: students commuting from partnered off-campus apartment complexes.
Local tip: older schedules may show 551 or 553 for parts of this corridor. Use Route 403 in the current Fall 2026 directory instead of depending on the older route number.
Verify Current Route 403 Information405 Downtown Greenville
Provides campus-to-downtown transportation, including areas such as Brownlea Drive, University Terrace, The District and access toward Town Common.
Best for: Downtown Greenville, shopping and dining, housing areas and connecting to city or intercity transportation.
Local tip: Route 405 replaces the old 305 Downtown designation. ECU also identifies Route 405 as a connection to the G.K. Butterfield Transportation Center for intercity travel.
Check Current 405 Downtown Service502 East 10th Street
The East 10th Street route supports residential and campus-related travel along this corridor, including access toward Riverwalk and Beech Street Villas.
Best for: students commuting from housing served along East 10th Street.
Local tip: the former 401 Purple route was redesignated as Route 502 in the 2026 network. Review the revised stops instead of using the 401 timetable.
Find Route 502 on the ECU System Map504 The Landing
Serves The Landing Apartments, D-Lot Overflow, Greenville Mall/Mellow Mushroom, Greenville Centre and Hyde Drive before reaching the housing destination.
Best for: The Landing apartments, Greenville Mall area and nearby shopping destinations along the published route.
Local tip: the official timetable shows the trip from Christenbury Gym to The Landing taking about 10 scheduled minutes for selected departures.
Official 504 The Landing Schedule506 Carolina Creek
This route operates from Christenbury Gym Bus Terminal to Carolina Creek Apartments. It is a relatively straightforward residential connection.
Best for: residents of Carolina Creek and students connecting between that apartment community and campus.
Local tip: the published schedule shows 7:00 AM from Christenbury Gym and 7:10 AM at Carolina Creek, with the same 30-minute departure pattern throughout the day.
Official 506 Carolina Creek Schedule610 Minges Park & Ride
Connects commuter parking areas around Minges Coliseum and Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium with main-campus transportation points, including Christenbury Gym and Main Campus Student Center.
Best for: students and university staff parking in designated commuter lots near Minges or Dowdy-Ficklen.
Local tip: the parking permit and the bus ride are different matters. Check ECU Parking rules for the lot you use, then use the 610 timetable for your shuttle connection.

Visual Comparison: How Often Do ECU Buses Run?
The bars below compare scheduled intervals between buses. A shorter interval generally means less waiting, but actual arrivals may vary.
301 Gold’s published weekday peak window is 9:00 AM–6:00 PM. Other operating periods have a 20-minute frequency. The graphic compares timetable intervals; it does not show real-time waiting or measured reliability.
ECU Bus Departure Times: Useful Campus Timepoints
ECU publishes individual route timetables with major timepoints and approximate times at intermediate stops. The selected examples below help explain how the schedules work without making students scroll through hundreds of departures.

ECU Campus Bus Map: How the Routes Connect
ECU has more than one campus boarding hub. The Main Campus Student Center, Christenbury Gym Bus Terminal, Speight Bus Terminal and West End Bus Terminal serve different route connections.
This is an explanatory network diagram, not a street-level map or a complete list of stops. Connections shown are conceptual and do not imply that every pair of routes shares one physical platform.
How to Get an Accurate ECU Bus Stop Map
- Open ECU Transit’s official system map page.
- Find the list of current routes.
- Choose the route number matching your destination.
- Open its individual route map or Google My Maps view where provided.
- Zoom to your apartment, dorm, parking area or class building.
- Find the closest official stop rather than assuming the bus will pick up anywhere along the road.
- Confirm the direction and use BusTime to check when a vehicle is approaching.
If you use Google Maps to locate the walking path between your residence hall and a transit stop, our Google Maps bus directions and stop-finding guide explains how to select transit directions, compare walking distances and read arrival information. ECU BusTime remains the better final source for the university bus’s current position.
How to Track Your ECU Bus Using BusTime
ECU Transit uses BusTime for bus locations, route information and estimated arrivals. It also provides upcoming vehicle passenger-load information, reported as low, medium or high where available.
Open ECU BusTime Live Tracker.
Using the Stop Number on an ECU Bus Sign
Many designated ECU bus stops display a stop number and QR code. The QR code can take riders directly to BusTime, while the number helps identify the stop more precisely.
- Locate the stop sign near your boarding position.
- Scan the QR code or open bustime.ecu.edu.
- Choose the Stop Times option where available.
- Enter the number printed on the sign.
- Review routes serving that stop.
- Select your particular route if several buses use the stop.
- Check the estimated arrival and vehicle location before boarding.
How Early Should You Reach the ECU Bus Stop?
ECU’s route pages recommend reaching the stop at least five minutes before the planned departure. For an important class or clinical appointment, leave a larger buffer rather than relying on the last bus that could get you there.
ECU Transit advises students to plan a trip approximately 45 minutes before their class time when possible, allowing for walking, waiting and unexpected delays.
Is the ECU Bus Free for Students, Staff and Visitors?
ECU Transit’s official FAQ says members of the ECU community and visitors can use the regular bus service free of charge. Students and university employees should still carry their ECU 1 Card, especially when using services with identification requirements.
ECU Ride is different: the on-demand van service requires a valid ECU 1 Card and an eligible ECU student, faculty or staff account. A valid cardholder may bring up to three guests under the published policy.
What to Do When Boarding
- Wait at a designated ECU Transit stop.
- Confirm the destination displayed on the bus.
- Allow passengers to finish exiting.
- Board through the front door.
- Follow operator instructions and show identification if required.
- Use seating or handrails while traveling.
- Request your stop before reaching it.
- Exit using the rear door when directed and safe.
There is no reason to purchase a $2 or $3 city-bus ticket for a regular ECU Transit fixed-route trip. However, separate Greenville GREAT buses, intercity services and paid regional shuttles have their own policies.
ECU Ride Van Schedule: What Happens After Your Bus Route Ends?
ECU Ride is not another regularly scheduled bus route. It is the university’s fare-free, shared, point-to-point van service for eligible ECU students, faculty and staff. It serves areas within a defined service boundary and is especially useful when normal fixed-route buses are unavailable.
How to Book an ECU Ride Van
- Open ECU Ride’s official information page.
- Follow the ECU Ride app instructions or download link.
- Create an account using your eligible ECU email address.
- Check that your mobile phone number is correct.
- Enter your pickup and destination locations inside the eligible service area.
- Choose an appropriate Express Zone if a nearby one is available.
- Submit the request and review the estimated wait.
- Watch for vehicle arrival updates and meet the driver promptly.
- Bring a valid physical ECU 1 Card.
Eight ECU Ride Express Zones
ECU explains that requesting from an Express Zone can make pickups easier and help the shared-ride service operate more efficiently.
Can You Book ECU Ride by Phone?
Yes. Call 252-328-7433, also listed as 252-ECU-RIDE, for assistance arranging a van request.
ECU Ride does not automatically provide unlimited trips to any address in Greenville. Check its official service-area map before requesting a destination.
ECU Bus Schedule Changes: Football Games, Thanksgiving and Winter Break
The most important thing about ECU Transit is that it follows the university calendar. A normal Tuesday schedule may not apply on a holiday, a home football game or a day between semesters.
Important Remaining Fall 2026 Dates
Why Football Games Matter for Students
Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, Minges Coliseum and College Hill are particularly important during home football games. ECU states that ECU Ride may not serve areas around these locations during restricted game-day operations.
If you usually park near the stadium, use Route 610, or rely on the 301 Gold circulator, check football-day instructions ahead of time. A bus that operates normally on a non-game Saturday may be unavailable on a game Saturday.
Summer Service Is Completely Different
During Summer 2026, ECU did not operate its regular fixed bus routes. The university used its ECU Ride on-demand van service instead, with published weekday hours of 7:00 AM–7:00 PM.
Students returning after a semester break should never assume the regular Fall route schedule is still active. Check whether a spring, summer or intersession calendar applies.
Where Should You Transfer Between ECU Bus Routes?
ECU’s routes use several different campus hubs. A route that starts at Christenbury Gym may not begin at the same stop as one originating at Main Campus Student Center or Speight Bus Terminal.
Example: Apartment to Health Sciences Campus
This is a general transfer workflow, not a guarantee that every apartment route connects directly to Route 302 at one stop. Check the current route maps before planning the complete journey.
ECU Transit Accessibility and Pirate Access Service
ECU provides wheelchair-accessible buses and vans. The university also offers Pirate Access, a specialized shared-ride transportation service for eligible riders who cannot use regular fixed-route service because of a qualifying permanent or temporary disability.
Pirate Access Service Area
ECU describes service covering ECU properties in Greenville and areas within three-quarters of a mile of ECU fixed bus routes, subject to the published service-area requirements.
How to Apply for Pirate Access
- Open the official Pirate Access information page.
- Read the eligibility and service-area requirements.
- Follow the Pirate Access application instructions.
- Complete the required application and healthcare-provider certification process.
- Wait for ECU Transit’s eligibility review and approval.
- Arrange your initial ride or recurring travel needs with the program staff.
- Call 252-328-7433 for subsequent approved ride scheduling and assistance.
Important Scheduling Details
- ECU recommends scheduling Pirate Access rides by 5:00 PM on the day before the desired trip.
- Ride requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
- Approved rides use a 30-minute pickup window.
- Requested times may need adjustment because the service is shared.
- Late cancellations can affect rider no-show records.
Read the official Pirate Access booking and cancellation instructions.
ECU Airport and Amtrak Shuttle Prices
Regular ECU campus buses are free. However, ECU also offers separate airport and railway-station shuttle services for longer-distance travel, and certain trips carry premium charges.
| Destination | Published price | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), 1–3 passengers | $185 one way | Premium on-demand regional shuttle. |
| RDU group of 4–6 passengers | $275 one way | Group price for one-way service. |
| Pitt-Greenville Airport (PGV), normal hours | Free | Subject to eligible service arrangements and hours. |
| PGV outside normal hours | $50 | Premium off-hours service. |
| Wilson Amtrak Station | $75 one way | Single-rider on-demand ticket. |
| Rocky Mount Amtrak Station | $80 one way | Single-rider on-demand ticket. |
How to Request an Airport or Amtrak Shuttle
- Open the official ECU on-demand airport and Amtrak shuttle page.
- Choose your destination and appropriate shuttle category.
- Submit the request at least one week in advance where required.
- Wait for ECU Transit’s approval and payment instructions.
- Use the designated purchasing center to complete payment.
- Save the confirmation email and boarding instructions.
- Confirm the departure point and baggage arrangements before travel.
These prices apply to the premium on-demand program. ECU also runs separately scheduled RDU university-break shuttles, which have their own ticket deadlines and fare arrangements.
Connecting to Raleigh by Intercity Bus
ECU identifies the G.K. Butterfield Transportation Center at 600 S Pitt Street, Greenville, NC, as an intercity transportation point. ECU’s 405 Downtown route is listed as an option for reaching the transportation center during its regular operating period.
Students continuing to Raleigh should plan the intercity leg separately. Once in Raleigh, our GoRaleigh local bus routes, stop and fare guide explains how to find onward transportation, including connections toward transportation hubs and the wider Raleigh network. GoRaleigh is a separate transit system; it is not an ECU campus route.
ECU Bus Rules: Bicycles, Food, Boarding and Safety
Some ECU buses have front-mounted bicycle racks. Riders are responsible for loading and unloading their own bicycle and should inform the operator before using the rack.
ECU allows food and beverages in closed, spill-proof containers. Open containers and drinks that may spill should not be carried in violation of the rider policy.
Enter through the front and exit through the rear where instructed. Remain clear of the doorway and hold a handrail if standing.
Smoking and vaping are prohibited. Keep aisles clear, avoid distracting the operator while the vehicle moves, and follow ECU student conduct rules.
How to Use the Bicycle Rack
- Tell the bus operator that you want to load a bicycle.
- Lower the rack using its release handle.
- Place the front wheel into the designated wheel position.
- Set the rear wheel in the corresponding support.
- Pull the spring-loaded securing arm over the front tire.
- At your destination, notify the operator and unload safely.
- Return the rack to its upright position if empty.
For full procedures, see ECU Transit’s official bicycle-rack instructions.
ECU Bus Not Showing or Not Arriving? What to Do
The route may not be operating at that time, or the vehicle may not be reporting location information. Check the service calendar and official route timetable.
Look for the current Fall 2026 replacement: 405 Downtown, 502 East 10th Street or the consolidated 403 apartment route, as appropriate.
Check whether 301 Gold serves your destination. If not, consider ECU Ride during its eligible operating hours and service area.
Confirm whether your route starts at Main Campus Student Center, Christenbury Gym/Brewster, Speight or another designated terminal.
Check ECU Ride service hours and boundaries. If demand is high, requests may temporarily be unavailable. Call the van service for assistance.
Contact ECU Transit about another accessible boarding arrangement or Pirate Access eligibility rather than attempting an unsafe route.
Traveling Beyond Greenville
ECU campus buses do not provide regular service throughout North Carolina. If your trip continues to another city after using intercity transportation, check that city’s independent transit system.
For example, our Charlotte CATS bus and rail schedule guide helps riders who reach Charlotte plan their onward local trip, including route selection, transit hubs and fare differences. It is not a direct connection operated by ECU Transit.
