Find Duluth DTA Bus Routes, Times, Stops, Fares and Real-Time Arrivals

DTA is the Duluth Transit Authority, the public bus system serving Duluth, Superior, Proctor and Hermantown. The useful way to read a DTA schedule is to start with your route number, service day and direction—then check the live bus and temporary detours before leaving.

This guide brings the current DTA route network, peak and off-peak fares, free transfers, Duluth Transportation Center information, trip planning, mobile tickets, accessibility, bike rules, weather service, lost property and the August 30, 2026 route-update notice into one rider-focused page.

Quick answer

How to Check a DTA Bus Schedule Correctly

1. Pick the route DTA’s current schedule selector includes routes such as the 101 Blue Line, 102 Green Line, 103, 108 airport service, 110 Duluth–Superior service and other neighborhood routes.
2. Pick the day The official selector separates Weekday, Saturday, Sunday, Holiday and Daily service where applicable.
3. Pick the direction Do not use one timetable column for both directions. Destination and transfer patterns can differ significantly.
4. Check alerts DTA says its Service Alerts page is the primary source for temporary detours because some temporary routing changes may not immediately appear in digital trip-planning tools.
Important for August 2026: DTA has a separate Route Updates page stating that upcoming route updates take effect on Sunday, August 30. Recheck your regular commute before traveling on or after that date.

Current DTA route selector

DTA Routes and Where They Go

The official system preview lists fourteen numbered services from 101 through 114. Route names are more useful than route numbers alone because they tell you the neighborhood, hub or major destination served.

101 — Go Line Blue Line A major Go Line service in the DTA network. Go Line
102 — Go Line Green Line Another principal Go Line corridor in the DTA system. Go Line
103 — New Duluth / DTC / Lakeside / UMD Connects New Duluth with downtown, Lakeside and the University of Minnesota Duluth area. Cross-city
104 — East 4th Local Local service focused on the East 4th Street corridor. Local
105 — East 9th Local Local route for the East 9th Street corridor. Local
106 — Kenwood Neighborhood service for the Kenwood area. Neighborhood
107 — LSC / Trinity / Mall Local Links Lake Superior College, Trinity-area stops and the Miller Hill shopping area. College + Mall
108 — Piedmont / Mall / Airport Useful for riders traveling through Piedmont and Miller Hill toward Duluth International Airport. Airport
109 — Proctor / Spirit Valley / DTC Connects Proctor and Spirit Valley with the Duluth Transportation Center. Proctor
110 — DTC / Superior / Tower Avenue Crosses the state line to serve Superior, Wisconsin and the Tower Avenue corridor. Duluth ↔ Superior
111 — Superior Circulator Circulator service within Superior. Wisconsin
112 — Woodland / UMD / Mall Connects Woodland and UMD with the Miller Hill area. UMD + Mall
113 — Park Point / DTC Connects Park Point with downtown Duluth and the DTC. Waterfront
114 — Central Hillside / Observation Hill Neighborhood route serving Central Hillside and Observation Hill. Hillside
Route list maintenance: DTA is actively adjusting service. Treat the official schedule selector as the source of truth when a printed hand schedule, app screenshot or older route number disagrees.

Twin Ports orientation

How the DTA Network Connects Duluth and Superior

This simplified SVG is an orientation diagram, not a geographic route map. It highlights the major rider hubs and destination types that appear throughout the current DTA network.

DTC Downtown Duluth NEW DULUTH West / Spirit Valley PROCTOR PARK POINT LAKESIDE UMD SUPERIOR Wisconsin MILLER HILL / AIRPORT
DTC is the key transfer hub: several DTA services connect through downtown, and some buses are interlined so riders may occasionally stay aboard while the vehicle continues as another route. Read the timetable’s destination information rather than assuming every downtown arrival ends the trip.

DTA Bus Fare, Day Pass and Monthly Pass Prices

Off-Peak Single Ride $0.75 Lower single-ride price outside the defined weekday peak periods.
Day Pass $3.00 Useful when several rides make single-fare payments less practical.

7-Day Pass $15.00
31-Day Youth Pass $30.00. DTA requires qualifying youth-pass riders to present valid identification at the DTC customer-service window.

Boarding time determines fare

When Does the $1.50 DTA Peak Fare Apply?

DTA currently defines weekday peak periods as 7:00 AM–9:00 AM and 2:30 PM–6:00 PM. The fare is determined by the time you board.

Before 7 AM $0.75 Off-peak
7–9 AM $1.50 Morning peak
9 AM–Noon $0.75 Off-peak
Noon–2:30 $0.75 Off-peak
2:30–6 PM $1.50 Afternoon peak

Mobile-ticket trap: DTA states that an off-peak mobile ticket with transfer time remaining will not work once the trip enters the peak boarding period. If your transfer will occur during peak time, use the appropriate peak ticket.
Free transfer workflow

How DTA Transfers Work

DTA states that transfers between regular routes are free when requested during boarding and are valid for one hour. Mobile single-ride tickets are also active for one hour after activation under the current mobile-ticket rules.

Real-Time Tracking DTA provides an on-demand tool for viewing bus movement and estimated arrival information.

Trip Planner DTA’s trip planner is powered by Google Transit and can calculate routes, walks, transfers and estimated trip duration.

Service Alerts Check this separately from the live tracker because temporary detours can be missing from digital planning tools.

Check Alerts

Best workflow: timetable → stop → live prediction → DTA Service Alerts. Each answers a different question.

How to Use the DTA Trip Planner

Enter your starting point. Use an address, landmark or current location when GPS permission is available.
Enter the destination. A major destination such as DTC, UMD, Miller Hill Mall, Duluth Airport or a street address can be used.
Set the travel time. Choose Leave Now, Depart At or Arrive By depending on whether arrival time matters more than departure time.
Compare suggested trips. DTA notes that different options can trade less travel time for an earlier arrival or shorter walk.
Review transfer time. The planner can show how long you have between buses when a transfer is required.
Check service alerts separately. DTA warns that temporary route modifications may not always be reflected immediately in digital trip planners.
Walking-route caution: DTA repeats Google’s warning that suggested walking paths may lack sidewalks or pedestrian facilities and that estimated walking time may not match winter conditions or individual walking speed.
Upcoming service change

DTA Route Updates Take Effect Sunday, August 30, 2026

DTA’s official Route Updates page currently states that upcoming route changes take effect Sunday, August 30. Because the update page and the main schedule selector can display different route-label conventions during a transition, riders should verify the exact route after the new service date rather than relying on an old screenshot.

Before August 30

  • Use the current official route selector for your trip date.
  • Save your normal stop number.
  • Check current detours separately.
  • Do not assume a future timetable is already active.

On or After August 30

  • Reopen the DTA schedule page.
  • Confirm route number and direction again.
  • Check whether your stop moved.
  • Replace any saved PDF or screenshot that no longer matches.
Do not “translate” route numbers yourself. The Route Updates page currently shows route-family labels such as 1/2/3, 5, 6/7, 8, 9 and 10/10H. Compare the official update information with the current schedule selector instead of assuming a one-to-one replacement.

DTA-specific alert rule

Why You Must Check the DTA Service Alerts Page

DTA has explicitly warned riders that temporary detours and route modifications may not appear in its mobile apps or trip-planning tools because those digital route feeds cannot always be changed instantly.

Trip planner can show the scheduled route. A construction detour can temporarily send the actual bus along another street.
A stop may be temporarily missed. The scheduled stop can remain visible in an app even when road work moves the bus away from that block.
DTA’s stated primary detour source is its Service Alerts page. Check it before walking to the stop when construction, events or severe weather are affecting the Twin Ports.
Practical rule: when DTA’s app and an active DTA service alert disagree about a temporary detour, use the current official alert for the temporary routing instruction.

MyDTA + Transit app

How the MyDTA Mobile App Works

MyDTA is DTA’s official mobile ticketing app. It can buy and store fare products, activate mobile tickets and link riders to trip-planning tools. DTA also supports mobile ticketing through the Transit app.

Buy tickets Purchase peak, off-peak and available pass products using electronic payment.
Store tickets Multiple unused tickets can be kept in the app for later travel.
Activate just before boarding DTA recommends activating a mobile ticket only when the bus is arriving rather than far in advance.
Scan at the validator Activated tickets display a QR code that is presented to the mobile ticket reader near the farebox.
No signal after purchase? DTA states that a purchased ticket can still be displayed without active cellular or Wi-Fi service.
Dead phone If the device cannot display the ticket, DTA expects the rider to use another valid payment method.
MyDTA and Transit are separate accounts. DTA says mobile wallets do not automatically synchronize between the two apps even when the same email address is used.
Mobile-ticket refund window: DTA currently allows self-refund for an accidental mobile-ticket purchase for five minutes. Beyond that, its general mobile-ticket policy is no refund.

How to Ride a DTA Bus for the First Time

Find the correct stop. Use the DTA bus-stop map or official route map and confirm the direction before waiting.
Check the route number and destination. Several DTA routes share downtown and transfer corridors.
Have fare ready. Validate a fare card, scan an activated mobile ticket or place cash into the farebox.
Ask about the transfer if required. DTA’s regular-route transfer is currently free and valid for one hour under the published rules.
Signal before your stop. Ring the bell shortly before your destination rather than waiting until the bus has passed it.
Exit safely. DTA advises using the rear door when possible, except when front-door accessibility equipment is required.
Accessible fixed-route buses

DTA Wheelchair Access, Kneeling Buses and STRIDE

DTA states that its regular-route buses have accessible ramps and kneeling capability to make boarding easier. Its service also includes wheelchair securement systems, with some buses using Quantum automatic securement in addition to traditional equipment.

Accessible ramps Regular DTA buses are equipped with ramps for wheelchair users.
Kneeling capability The bus can lower the front boarding height when needed.
Wheelchair securement Securement equipment is available onboard; follow the operator’s instructions.
Service animals DTA facility policy permits service animals. Other animals at the DTC must meet the applicable carrier requirement.
STRIDE STRIDE is DTA’s separate origin-to-destination paratransit service for qualifying disabled riders.
STRIDE Office 218-722-3327
Accessible bus does not mean every sidewalk is accessible. Snowbanks, construction, steep grades and temporary stop relocations can affect the path to the bus stop.
Bike + bus

DTA Bicycle Rack Rules

DTA says regular-route buses have two-tray bicycle racks and there is no additional fare for transporting a bicycle.

Rack capacity Two bicycles under the current regular-route rack setup.
Tire width DTA currently lists compatibility up to approximately 4.75-inch tire width.
Bike weight DTA currently lists a maximum compatible bike weight of 55 pounds.
Rack full? DTA says the rider must wait for the next bus when no rack space is available.
Bikes inside bus DTA states bicycles are not permitted inside buses for safety reasons.
Fat tire / e-bike caution DTA notes that many fat-tire and e-bike models may not fit the existing rack equipment.
Do not make a time-critical connection depend on one bike-rack space. A full rack can require waiting for the next bus.
Twin Ports winter operations

DTA Snow, Severe Weather and Emergency Service

Winter weather is a real operational issue in Duluth. DTA says major snow events can cause delays, alter pedestrian access and, when arterial roads become unsafe, result in service reductions or cancellation.

Normal delays Snow, ice and reduced visibility can make scheduled times less reliable even when the route continues operating.
Emergency Mainline DTA publishes an Emergency Mainline service that runs east to west and follows Route 103 as closely as conditions allow.
Emergency frequency DTA says the Emergency Mainline aims for approximately 30-minute service where possible.
Unsafe roads DTA may cancel remaining service if main roads become unsafe or are forecast to deteriorate to unsafe conditions.
Flexible trips DTA recommends completing flexible shopping or errands before a forecast major storm when possible.
Rider Alerts Sign up for route-specific DTA alerts when winter travel is important.

DTA Bus Problems and What to Do Next

The app shows my normal stop, but the bus is not coming. Check DTA Service Alerts for a temporary detour. DTA specifically warns that temporary routing changes may not immediately appear in digital tools.
I cannot find my old route number. DTA is actively updating its network. Use the current schedule selector and upcoming Route Updates page instead of guessing the replacement route.
My off-peak mobile ticket stopped working during a transfer. Check whether you are boarding the transfer during DTA’s peak period. DTA says off-peak mobile tickets are not accepted for peak-time transfers.
The live tracker has no prediction. Check the static timetable and service alerts. Digital tracking can fail even when scheduled service still exists.
The bus arrived downtown under another route. Some DTA services are interlined. Check the destination column to determine whether you can remain aboard.
My mobile ticket will not display. DTA expects the rider to use another valid payment method if the phone is not operational.
The bike rack is full. DTA requires bicyclists to wait for the next bus because bikes cannot be carried inside the vehicle.
Snow is getting worse. Check DTA Rider Alerts and the Holiday/Weather Guide because DTA may modify or cancel service when arterial roads become unsafe.
