Route 30 ~45 min*
Route 70 ~46 min*
800 / 850 ~1 hr*
*Approximate timetable examples, not guaranteed travel times. Route 200’s example is based on the published Līhuʻe Courthouse-to-Kekaha timetable; Route 30 and Route 70 examples use one displayed loop; Routes 800/850 are approximately one hour end-to-end in the published table. Traffic, road conditions, deviations and stop dwell time can change the trip.
Līhuʻe Airport

Using The Kauaʻi Bus From Līhuʻe Airport

Route 200 explicitly serves Līhuʻe Airport A and Līhuʻe Airport B on its Līhuʻe-to-Kekaha direction. In the published timetable, Route 200 leaves Līhuʻe Courthouse at 5:25 AM and reaches Airport A at 5:29 AM and Airport B at 5:31 AM; the same pattern repeats approximately hourly across much of the displayed schedule.

1
Leave terminal

Locate the official Kauaʻi Bus boarding point marked for the bus.

2
Check direction

Route 200 travels from Līhuʻe toward the West Side and Kekaha.

3
Check tracker

Open the Kauaʻi Bus Tracker before walking to the stop.

4
Plan transfer

For destinations outside Route 200’s corridor, plan the connecting route before boarding.

5
Allow buffer

Do not plan a tight airport-to-bus connection around the printed minute alone.

Airport luggage tip: The bus is public fixed-route transportation rather than an airport coach. Keep bags within a manageable size and make sure they do not block aisles or accessible areas. For unusually large luggage, verify the current baggage policy before relying on the bus.
Current fare status

Kauaʻi Bus Fare: Currently Waived Until Further Notice

The County’s current Transportation and Bus Fares pages state that all fixed-route and paratransit fares are waived until further notice. That means the practical fare at the time this guide was checked is $0.

Current fixed-route fare $0 Temporary waiver in effect

No fixed-route fare is currently being charged while the County’s fare waiver remains active.

Normal mainline fare $2.00 General public when normal fare collection resumes

The published regular fare table lists $2.00 per mainline trip and $1.00 for qualifying discounted riders.

Normal shuttle fare $0.50 General public when normal fare collection resumes

The normal schedule lists $0.50 per shuttle trip and $0.25 for qualifying discounted riders.

Normal one-day pass $5.00 $2.50 discounted

Normal monthly pass $50.00 $25.00 discounted

The County also lists an annual fixed-route pass at $550 general / $275 discounted.

Discount eligibility ID ADA / seniors / youth

Discounted fare categories include eligible ADA riders, seniors age 65+ and youth age 7–18. ID may be required.

Payment options

How Fare Payment Works When Collection Is Active

Although fares are currently waived, The Kauaʻi Bus has modernized payment options. These are useful to know if normal collection resumes.

Open contactless payment Supported options include major contactless cards and mobile wallets. The County has announced Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Diners Club International, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and supported prepaid Cash App cards.
Holomua smart card The account-based Holomua smartcard is part of the current fare system and can be linked to an account.
Kauaʻi Bus eTicket The County provides a Kauaʻi Bus eTicket mobile app and dedicated customer support.
Fare capping: The County’s Open Payments system was introduced with fare capping so riders pay toward the applicable daily/monthly limit rather than unnecessarily exceeding it when normal fare charging applies.
Live bus tracker

Check Live Arrival Instead of Relying Only on the PDF

The County provides a Kauaʻi Bus Tracker app for Android and iOS plus a web-based live map. Use the schedule for planning and the tracker for the final departure check.

1
Open tracker

Use the County Transportation page to open the official live map or app.

2
Select route

Choose the route number you intend to ride.

3
Confirm direction

100 and 200, or 400 and 500, travel opposite ways.

4
Find stop

Use your actual boarding point rather than the nearest major landmark.

5
Recheck

Refresh shortly before you leave because arrival predictions can change.

Scheduled vs live: the printed timetable is the planned schedule. Live data may change because of traffic, road closures, weather, route deviations, operational conditions or GPS/data interruptions.
Stops and boarding

How to Find the Correct Kauaʻi Bus Stop

Check the destination sign Each bus has a destination sign on the front and route number on the curb side. Check both before boarding.
Use designated stops The official route materials state that pickup and drop-off at undesignated locations is not allowed.
Direction pairs matter Route 100 is not interchangeable with 200, and Route 400 is not interchangeable with 500. The paired numbers represent opposite travel directions.
  • Confirm the route number before leaving.
  • Confirm direction, not just destination area.
  • Find the exact official stop.
  • Use the tracker before walking to the stop.
  • Arrive about 5–10 minutes early.
  • Check temporary stop relocations and road closures.
  • For transfers, verify the next route before boarding the first bus.
  • Plan the return trip before late-evening travel.
Accessible fixed-route service

Wheelchair Access, Bike Racks and Vehicle Features

The County’s current route materials describe Kauaʻi Bus vehicles as lift-equipped, able to accommodate common wheelchairs, air-conditioned and equipped with bike racks.

Lift-equipped buses Vehicles are equipped to assist riders using mobility aids or riders who cannot use stairs.
Wheelchair capacity Published route materials reference common wheelchairs up to approximately 53 inches long, 33 inches wide and 800 pounds occupied.
Bike racks Fixed-route buses are described as equipped with bicycle racks.
Stop accessibility A bus may be accessible even when a particular stop is affected by slope, construction, shoulder condition or temporary relocation.
Paratransit

ADA and Senior Paratransit Service

The Transportation Agency also operates curb-to-curb paratransit for qualified riders. The County says service days and hours are the same as public transportation, and reservations normally must be made no later than 4:30 PM the day before.

Senior eligibility Individuals age 65+ must be registered with the County Transportation Agency for senior paratransit.
ADA eligibility Riders must be certified and registered as ADA eligible for ADA paratransit.
Reservations Call (808) 246-8110 and use menu option #2, or follow the current County instructions.
Temporary fare status: the County currently says paratransit fares are also waived until further notice.
Alerts and route changes

Current Issues Riders Should Know About

900 / 950 suspended The County says these routes will not operate until road conditions improve.
Kolo Road relocation A temporary Kolo Road bus-stop relocation has affected Routes 400 and 500; check current signage and County updates.
Traffic affects arrivals Official timetables state that traffic, operating conditions and route deviations can affect stop times.
Event detours Līhuʻe Route 70 has previously been temporarily rerouted for Rice Street closures and events, so same-day checks are useful.
Airport orientation

Līhuʻe Airport Map for Route 200 Riders

Why this map matters

Route 200’s official timetable includes Līhuʻe Airport A and B. Use the map for geographic orientation, then use the official timetable and tracker for the actual boarding point and arrival.

  • Check which airport bus stop your trip uses.
  • Confirm Route 200 direction before boarding.
  • Use live tracking before leaving baggage claim.
  • Allow extra time if you need a second bus after Līhuʻe.

Do not use the Google map as the timetable. The County schedule and tracker should control your departure decision.

Practical rider tips

Before You Leave for the Bus

North Shore trips Give yourself more buffer than the printed timetable when road conditions or heavy traffic could affect Kūhiō Highway.
Tourist transfers Do not assume a route travels directly from your resort to another part of the island. Līhuʻe is an important transfer area for several corridors.
Sunday planning The current official schedule page states no Sunday bus service, so arrange another transportation option before Sunday travel.
Last-bus planning Check the last trip at your specific stop, not only the system-wide 9:45 PM service-span statement.
Free rides are temporary Do not assume the fare waiver will remain forever. Recheck the fare page before travel.
Tracker first, PDF second Use the PDF to understand the route and scheduled time, then use live data as your final same-day check.
