Quick answer

What Does “Two Bus Schedule” Mean?

In most transit searches, “two bus schedule” means the timetable for a bus identified as 2. The correct schedule depends on the city, transit agency, direction, weekday, weekend, holiday and boarding stop.

Chicago Route 2 CTA Hyde Park Express

Rush-hour weekday express service between Hyde Park and Navy Pier.

Seattle Route 2 King County Metro

West Queen Anne, Downtown Seattle, First Hill and Madrona Park.

San Francisco Route 2 2 Sutter

Presidio Avenue, Sutter Street and Downtown/Ferry Plaza.

Philadelphia Route 2 SEPTA

20th–Johnston, Center City, Hunting Park and Wayne Junction variants.

Los Angeles Line 2 LA Metro

Westwood and Exposition Park via Sunset Boulevard.

New Jersey Bus 2 NJ TRANSIT

Secaucus, Journal Square and Jersey City-area service.

There is no single nationwide Route 2 timetable. A Route 2 bus in Chicago is completely different from Route 2 in Seattle, San Francisco, Philadelphia or Los Angeles. Always confirm the operator and destination before using a departure time.
Searching for Portland Route 2? TriMet’s former 2-Division route was replaced by FX2-Division. Portland riders should now use the FX2 timetable rather than an old Line 2-Division schedule.

Route 2 Bus Operating Hours by Transit Agency

One Route 2 may operate only during weekday commuter hours while another runs daily. The correct service span depends on the operator and route direction.

Route 2 service Operating days First/last bus or service span Important reminder
CTA 2 Hyde Park Express Weekdays only Northbound 6:00–9:25 AM and 3:40–6:10 PM; southbound 6:50–9:25 AM and 3:25–7:05 PM at terminal departures. Limited-stop express service; no regular weekend departures.

LA Metro Line 2 Select service day Use the current LA Metro PDF for Westwood and Exposition Park directions. School-day and late-night patterns can differ.
NJ TRANSIT 2 Date-specific service Use current MyBus and the agency timetable for Secaucus and Jersey City directions. Trip variations may affect the first and last served stop.
How to read first and last bus times correctly The first bus leaving a terminal is not necessarily the first bus at your stop. A bus scheduled to leave the terminal at 6:00 AM may reach intermediate stops several minutes later. The last terminal bus also might not serve every branch or destination.

Current and recent changes

Route 2 Service Alerts and Important 2026 Updates

Transit alerts can change the route path, stop location, travel duration, payment options or service frequency.

Chicago CTA 2 — October 8–12, 2026 temporary reroute

CTA lists a planned temporary reroute affecting Route 2 around Balbo/Michigan and Roosevelt/Columbus between October 8 at 4:00 AM and October 12 at 6:00 AM. Buses use Michigan and Roosevelt in both directions in that area.

Chicago CTA 2 — October 12 parade reroute

CTA lists another planned Route 2 reroute on October 12, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, operating via Michigan and Balbo instead of the normal State Street alignment.

San Francisco Muni — September 1, 2026 payment update

New single-ride tickets are no longer available for purchase in MuniMobile. Use Clipper or another currently accepted payment option.

San Francisco Muni — October 12, 2026 holiday schedule

SFMTA’s 2 Sutter schedule selector includes Indigenous Peoples Day/Italian American Heritage Day on October 12, 2026. Check the holiday-specific table rather than assuming normal weekday departures.

Seattle Metro 2 — current schedule period

Metro’s published Route 2 schedule is effective August 29, 2026 through March 26, 2027. Stop or route changes can occur during that period, so consult any live alert.

Portland — FX2 rather than retired Line 2

Former TriMet Line 2-Division service has been replaced by FX2-Division. The current map and FX stop locations should be used.

Important notice These are dated service updates identified from official agency sources. They do not guarantee that a disruption remains active at the moment you read this guide. Confirm all current alerts with the transit agency before departure.
Trip duration and frequency

How Long Does the Two Bus Take?

There is no single Route 2 journey time. Some Route 2 services connect nearby city neighborhoods, while others cross larger metropolitan areas.

Use CTA Trip Planner
How to calculate actual scheduled travel time Select one timetable row, subtract the listed boarding time from the arrival time at your destination, and add walking and transfer time separately. If either timepoint is blank, that trip may not serve it.

What affects trip duration?

Traffic and road conditions

Road congestion, crashes and construction may change the actual arrival time.

Stop count and route variation

An express bus may travel faster between major stops but operate only during limited hours.

Transfers and walking

Allow extra time when transferring between bus, subway, light rail or train services.

Accessibility and rider assistance

Is Route 2 Wheelchair Accessible?

Accessibility arrangements vary by agency, vehicle and boarding stop. CTA says all its buses are accessible, while other transit agencies provide their own accessibility guidance and accessible-trip planning tools.

Accessible vehicles

Check ramps, lifts, kneeling buses, wheelchair securement and priority seating.

Accessible stops

Verify the curb, sidewalk, stop sign and any temporary construction around the boarding location.

Reduced fares

Senior, disability, youth, low-income and student fare programs are operator-specific.

Transfers

Confirm elevator availability and accessible walking connections when transferring to rail or subway.

Planning an accessible journey? Check both the vehicle and the exact stop. Even if the bus itself is accessible, construction or a temporary boarding relocation can make a stop difficult to use.
Before boarding

Route 2 Bus Rider Checklist

  • Confirm your city and transit agency.
  • Check that the route is numbered 2 and is currently operating.
  • Read the full route name and destination sign.
  • Select the weekday, Saturday, Sunday or holiday timetable.
  • Choose the direction toward your destination.
  • Find your exact boarding stop or stop ID.
  • Check first and last departures for that stop.
  • Review current ticket price and accepted payment methods.
  • Check whether transfers are included.
  • Read current detour and stop-closure alerts.
  • Check a live arrival estimate when available.
  • Arrive several minutes before the scheduled departure.
At the bus stop

Confirm the actual route sign and stop location. A nearby street can contain stops in both directions.

Before boarding

Verify the bus destination, branch or express pattern. Have your fare ready.

Before returning

Check the last trip in the reverse direction and confirm that it reaches your desired terminal.

Route 2 troubleshooting

Why Isn’t My Bus 2 Arriving?

Wrong Route 2 city

The search result may show another transit system. Confirm the agency name.

Wrong service day

CTA 2 does not have regular weekend service, unlike several other Route 2 buses.

Wrong direction

The opposite-direction stop may be across the street or at another terminal platform.

Temporary stop closure

Roadwork and events may move the bus stop or change the route temporarily.

Tracker problem

A missing live estimate may be a data problem rather than evidence of cancellation.

Outdated route name

Portland’s old Route 2-Division timetable should be replaced with the current FX2-Division schedule.

If you’re in Chicago, use CTA 2 Hyde Park Express. In Seattle, use King County Metro Route 2. In San Francisco, look for Muni 2 Sutter. Philadelphia riders need SEPTA Route 2, Los Angeles riders use Metro Line 2, and Secaucus/Jersey City riders should check NJ TRANSIT Bus 2.

For Portland, the current equivalent of the former Line 2-Division is FX2-Division. Always confirm the operator, trip direction, schedule date, boarding stop, fare and live service status before leaving.
